Ian Hunter and Mott the Hoople toured America in 1974..bands like Queen, the New York Dolls, Joe Walsh, even Aerosmith were opening...they were struggling...everyone said Cleveland opened up their arms to a bunch of nobodies..obviously..the rest is history..but ian hunter..was so taken..he wrote a song

Dude, you start the nite with maggot brain when BLF hit the mike, in the 70-early80, that crew knew what music was, when the suits came in, killed it. And all those tapes of all the live recordings were stolen, cool, maybe some snips will turn up.

Where are you from? I'm just curious because I grew up in Cleveland and my family was still in Cleveland when I was in the music business and I just happened to be in town for a couple days during baseball season where I got to do the national anthem for the indians and I'm not really ever going to forget that. But I was really really appreciative of the way that show was hot to people who were in other places. Because it was pretty solid. Grow up in Cleveland have a core group of people that you know since you were in school. Do you think you're struggling or dysfunctional even though you have a great couple of misadventures and you drink every night at the same place and you don't really mind if everyone else knows how mediocre you are since we are the capital of almost, but we're not going to be dickish we're just not as nice as Canadians. My new merchandise guy for the east coast was here and my technology guy was just really really into going to the bar the dtew Carey show based that one on and he's like a nerd version of Eminem even went to the same high school in Detroit at the same time as Eminem but he got carded and they were kind of uncertain about the Michigan license and I was sentimental in a goofy way I got homesick because I was living in new york city by then I could not get out of Cleveland fast enough to get free of the memories I now have trouble retrieving and I don't know if it's all the way youth goes or something else but I was really really touched by how these people were in the industry famous for eating people alive and here they are don't have any interest in the rock hall just talk about the drew Carey show and go bowling in Parma Because there was Moon over it. I have some good memories I forgot about thank you for reminding me of this. I'm dealing with mortality and I'm not happy that I didn't get a say in this but who does? The longer the comment the likelihood of Pepper mcGowan not being dead... Good night friend.

I have seen a couple people that have posted the Song Cleveland Rocks. they posted the Presidents of the United States cover that was the theme song for the Drew Cary show. Almost two decades earlier a guy named Ian Hunter recorded this song. It is rougher, less mellow with several sharp edges and a sense that the band was not 100% in control and that even they weren't sure where, or when, they were going to end up. In that sense I think it is closer to the spirit that Cleveland evokes. I like it.

When gigs were worth going to ...... this was as good as British rock got. If Cleveland has a tourism department, they should give Ian Hunter the freedom of the city. People who never thought of going to Cleveland fancy it because of this song. Ronson was the best.

@@jessepatterson8897 Bearing in mind the references to Cleveland in the movie "Dilirious" it's nice to get some balance. Cleveland is a Viking or Germanic name ... arrived in the US via the UK derived from "kleve"
