Molto bene! Sounds freaking great! Never was a fan of his until recently. Matter of fact, Deep Purple is coming to my city, Chicago on Aug 22nd, and I just may be there. Looking into getting 4th row seats (found out they were coming literally days ago). Will be seeing another legendary drummer, along with a 'meet and greet,' Mick Fleetwood when Fleetwood Mac hits Chicago in October. VIP seating, or bust for these legendary bands! As a drummer there's nothing like being as close to the stage to see these master's perform their magik!

I remember Carmine Appice in an interview decades ago saying “I don’t listen to Purple at all; Ian used to listen to me a lot, so it would be like taking my own licks.” To which I say: while indeed very early Purple somewhat borrowed the model put forth by Vanilla Fudge, the reality is that Ian Paice has always had far more clean speed and far better swing in his playing…. and his fill and solo choices are emphatically NOT like Carmine. The best rock drummers of that era are Ian Paice, Mitch Mitchell, Carl Palmer, and Mike Shrieve. They could be as heavy as Bonham or Appice when they wanted, but had better technique and better feel. Barrie Barlow was also awesome.
