It’s criminal how underrated Ian Thornley is. He is legendary. Incredible voice and an incredible guitarist.

You said that spot right on without having to go into great detail about lead singer/lead rhythm guitarist Ian Thornley from Toronto,Ontario,Canada. I've been fortunate enough to have seen both "Big Wreck" & "Thornley". I first seen "Thornley" in "La Salle,Ontario,Canada" @ "Strawberry Festival" which is a pretty big festival yearly in which is packed full for i believe it's a 3-5 day event running from Wednesday or Thursday to Sunday right downtown "La Salle,Ontario" right along the Windsor/Detroit Riverfront. "Thornley" was the headliner band & sadly enough they were experiencing major technical difficulties to where they'd be playing a song & the hydro would just cut out completely & it got so bad that they would end up skipping the song they'd be playing & start their next song & it happened so many times that Ian Thornley stopped when the hydro would be restored & apologize to the crowd & say listen guys do you want us to continue playing & keep doing what their doing by starting into a new song if the power kept going out for these sometimes short power surges etc & that's what ended up happening & it sucked so bad because i'm a big fan of both "Big Wreck" & "Thornley" & i obviously know a lot of songs + i'm a bassist & fretless bassist & i know how extremely talented these guys are :¬) But anyways to other shows where i've seen both "Big Wreck" & "Thornley" in London & Windsor. I seen Thornley again in London @Norma Jeans which is a small bar that holds roughly 100 people with decent sound board & "LOUD"!!! because Ian Thornley can really belt out those vocal chords & make his guitar just scream to the "HEAVENS"!!! to put it lightly! LOL!! I've also seen "Thornley" in London,Ontario down at "Harris Park" for the "Harris Rocks The Park" Gigs!! + I've seen "Big Wreck" at "Harris Park" :¬) & i've seen "Big Wreck" in Windsor right across from "Casino Windsor" right down on the riverfront overlooking the Detroit "GM Tower" for a beautiful view of small sailing boats sailing by or anchored & enjoying the live music :¬) I believe the "Tea Party" & "Big Sugar" were on that bill as well & it was a very proud Canadian musical moment in Canadian musical history because Ian Thornley is super talented!!! & i've seen "Big Wreck" live a few more times in London,Ontario which were awesome shows & got to finally meet Ian Thornley & the rest of the band except for the drummer.

I am remise to report that Ian Thornley is likely one of the greatest front men in rock history. Such an extreme talent. And there's Pete Thorn, one of the humblest guitar gods on the planet, right there next to him.

The pure genius of Ian and Big Wreck as a whole is just astounding and I will go to my grave fully understanding that these guys are geniuses in not only their own respective instruments but even more so as a group together. It only shines more clearly as to how astounding and wonderful it is that they put this amazing project together to perform such heavy, and sincere original tunes that are one of a kind and go to the deepest part of our core in every way. Just beautiful music that touches the sole. Great job Ian and Big Wreck!!!! Beautiful Music For Eternity.

Best ZZ Top song that was never an actual ZZ Top song ever! Amazing how versatile Ian is... his near-speed-metal runs on songs from Albatross compared to the Pink-Floydy stuff from Ghosts... and then there's this... so BFG inspired it's obvious.. you hear it from the get-go. Have Mercy!!!

what makes this song work is time and groove. they did not push the time...this is studio tempo...Blair locked the pocket down. This is NAMM...you are playing in front of legends and heroes walking around...you really have to check ego at the door...most overplay. these guys are really secure in who they are to pull this off.

My favorite song of the album. Live version doesn't sound as good, though. The hihat sounds too flat and I can't feel the "heavy sexiness" present on the record mix. That said, excellent song. It's like a stoned ZZ Top song.
@cebrinpitts7 жыл бұрын
stonerdemon Fuzz pedals are incredibly difficult to mix live. Especially on tighter riffs like that one. I'm actually impressed that it sounded as tight as it did. Really shows off the talent level of the players.

Nice info, dude! This is my favorite song of the album. Tone is absolutely killer, it reminds me of that heavy, fat tone from Big Wreck's first two records.
