Today's Highlights:
Hurricane Beryl strengthened again early this morning into a Category 4 as it roared through the Windward Islands.
As the eye of Hurricane Beryl was expected to pass over Grenada, the National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) issued a mandatory evacuation for residents of Limlair, Windward, and Dover in Carriacou.
Officials in Barbados also received more than a dozen reports of roof damage, fallen trees, and downed electric posts across the island.
CARICOM Chairman and President of Guyana Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali said his country stands ready to assist the island nations, which are expected to be devastated by Beryl, which is fluctuating between Category Three and Four strength.
St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew is also paying close attention to what is taking place in the southern islands as his wife, Diani Prince-Drew, is a native of St Vincent and the Grenadines.
The hurricane warning in Tobago has been downgraded as a Tropical Storm Warning #1- Orange Level.
• A state of emergency was initially declared in Tobago Due to the passage of Hurricane Beryl.
When Tobago was placed under Red level alert, members of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force were deployed to help with support and relief measures.
Ferry sailings were also suspended as the captain in charge of the inter-island ferries determined that conditions were too rough for sailing.
While Trinidad and Tobago were focused on preparing for the passage of Hurricane Beryl, a minor 3.7 magnitude earthquake was recorded to the west of the nation just before midnight.
A shooting in Malabar left one man dead and two others injured early on Monday 1st July 2024.
• The deceased was identified as 35-year-old Nicholas Sebro aka “Chi Chi Man” of Yoland Pompey Avenue, Phase 7.
While Tobago was bracing for the effects of Hurricane Beryl, a man was gunned down in Mt Pleasant on Sunday 30th June, 2024.
• The deceased was identified as 32-year-old Nathan Roach, a Sanitation Worker with the Division of Health of Roach Trace, Mt. Pleasant.
A man only identified as Valmicky died after he was found nursing multiple chop wounds in some bushes along Breeding Unit Road, Guayaguayare Road, Mayaro on Sunday 30th June, 204.
38-year-old Phillip Clarke aka ‘Piper’ of Railway Road, Longdenville was gunned down near his home in Longdenville, Chaguanas on Friday 28th June, 2024.
38-year-old Kevon Frederick aka “Dip”, a contractor of St. Barbs, Port of Spain who is alleged to be a lead figure in a well-known gang was gunned down along Walke Street in Sangre Grande on Friday 28th June, 2024.
An amputee identified as Veront Edwards who was set ablaze near the Maxi Hub along Manic Street, Chaguanas on Saturday 8th June, 2024, succumbed to his injuries at Mt Hope Hospital on Thursday 13th June, 2024.
55-year-old Christine Beepath of Hydraulic Trace, Kelly Village, Caroni drowned while fishing at Hydraulic Road in Kelly Village, Caroni on Sunday 30th June, 2024.
The body of a man who is yet to be identified was found floating in the Cunupia River in Felicity on Saturday 29th June, 2024.
The funeral service of Sadna Gangoo was held at Mohammed Drive in Princes Town on Sunday 30th June, 2024.
A police officer, allegedly identified as PC Marcus Baptiste, was captured shooting at another man in Quash Trace, Sangre Grande on Sunday 30th June, 2024.
