Congratulations Chris, bigger than 11 lbs imo. Considering all the dangers and potential disasters, the nets, the pollution, other anglers and natural predation that this fish survived to get to this size, the fact that you returned it so quickly says everything about you as anglers. You can be proud of the fact that many thousands of bass will hatch from her future spawnings that would never have existed if you'd killed this fish. With the greatest respect.

Hi John thanks very much! I think it helped that we have many years fishing behind us and that together we didn’t panic too much … apart from a bit of swearing which I usually avoid on the videos!😂 I think I can excuse that for once!!! Just shows that if in doubt fish smaller hooks…. They catch all sizes but big hooks only catch bigger fish!!! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment cheers ian

@@ianclarkfishing - My pleasure. Credit where it’s due. I was also amazed by the condition and colour of the fish. Very dark and silver. Like an open sea fish. Not what I would expect from water that coloured. Very interesting. 👍🏻

Yes we get an influx of bass on our beaches here in April to feed up and they generally have that colour despite as you say the water being the colour of coffee!😂 I’m often envious of the water clarity you have In Cornwall but the murky BC does produce well in the daytime as a result! Cheers ian

@davidstone1804 no problem! Enjoy your trip hopefully a few early bass about… had one last week. If arrive 4 hours before high, dig bait then fish for 3 hours up to high tide. 👍🎣

What about the ebb?? Is it worth fishing out for 1.5 / 2 hours?
@ianclarkfishing
@ianclarkfishing 7 ай бұрын
Mmmm… if you haven’t caught on the flood the fish usually aren’t there on that tide so I usually pack up at high. If however there are a few fish on the flood then by all means fish the ebb but it goes out at speed so you need to chase it down and long casts are a must. An hour maximum after high then it’s gone to the horizon!!!

Is it always muddy water like that in the channel?
@ianclarkfishing
@ianclarkfishing Жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for watching!!! Yes the Bristol Channel is always that colour… the huge tidal range and flow, the generally sandy/muddy sea bed, the outflow from the Severn Estuary all contribute to that. Whilst it doesn’t look aesthetically pleasing the fish don’t seem to mind and it means daylight fishing is good too as the fish are less wary than in clear water. Thanks for watching cheers ian

Hi Kenny lovely to hear from you!! I imagine it is a bit alien indeed….. the Bristol Channel has the second highest tidal range in the world and on a shallow surf beach like Brean the sea comes racing in towards high tide… difference between low and high water can be up to 14 metres!!!! Obviously the fish don’t mind and follow up the tide looking for food…. If you like unusual places check out some past videos from chesil beach too….20 miles of shingle on the English south coast!!! Cheers ian

@@ianclarkfishing great to see you release a huge bass like her and so quickly 👍🏻 However please please please teach your mate how to handle bass, especially big bass…..never never never lift them up by the gill plates. There’s a real risk that they can tear and that would result in a dead bass! Gently lift them up by holding the bottom lip and a hand under the belly and better still just support it in the water. As you have mentioned that bass is at least 20+ years old and an absolute miracle that it’s avoided all the dangers of man. And in case anyone wants to argue with me, I’m a life long bass angler and a retired Marine Biologist who specialised in UK Bass 👍🏻
