I love this kind of videos because we're not bombarded with the newest releases, instead we get to learn about great old authors, amazing prose that's waiting for us to be discovered and incredible stories. Thanks Ian and siblings for this video concept

Louis l’amour is pure nostalgia for me , pops had tons of them! All of them are so easy to consume and get sucked into! If I could recommend one by Louis it would be Haunted Mesa , it’s really unlike anything else he’s ever written but still stands tall in my eyes

Wonder was a fantastic read for me abut ten years ago. I still remember the part where the Dad is asking August to stop wearing the astronaut helmet, "I miss seeing your beautiful face". I once worked as a chaplain in one of Australia's largest children's hospitals. One patient was a teenage girl with a similar condition as August. She was there for the surgeons to build up bone structure and give her a new face. The surgery was amazing, but they then had to coach her through adapting to being a 'normal' and attractive teenager. Reading Wonder took me back into that time of my life. Similarly, when my son was a kid he would gravitate towards the new kids in school or those on the outer edges like August. He was good at befriending others. When he was twelve a teacher criticized this behaviour to my wife and me. We asked what she saw as a problem with somebody who was good at including others. She said, 'Well, it's not the way to get ahead in the world, is it?"

My dad passed away a year and a half ago, he loved Bernard Cornwell! Watching this has really made me want to read his books as a way to remember my dad. My dad loved the Sharp series(not sure of spelling) But I have always loved Arthurian stories, so I'm going to start with The Winter King. Thank you for your videos, they really inspire me to read things that I would normally never pick up. I also added The Revenant to my TBR.

A cool way you could do this video too would be like a loop of reading. For example say in the beginning when you and Chelsea finished each others books, the highest rated of the two would be swapped with Spencer’s read of choice and so on. 📚

You inspired us to do a lot of reading together as a family. Our daughter had to read Fahrenheit 451 for school and most of the family read it…. We all discussed it and could all help with the project! What was Spencer’s other recommendation?! Still recommending As long as the lemon trees grow by Zoulfa Katouh. You will love it, historical fiction that addresses what your mind will do in efforts to save you.

How about a competition and book swap with a viewer over zoom. (I get the dilemma... and that you'd have to vet the viewer, which may not make this an ideal choice. Perhaps whittle it down to a few finalists and zoom with them, then put those that qualify in a drawing )

Bouncing out of Wonder again. Chase up The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog by Bruce Perry. Perry is a neuro-psychologist who specialises in kids with trauma. It's a book of short stories, case studies of kids he's worked with over many years. In one story he enlists the whole class of one boy, telling them that together they can make 'Peter's amazing brain' work properly by showing him love and acceptance.
