Ah, the Waltham designator. Also in use in 1996-7 at least... I made YTV over cable my main ITV for two reasons, one of which was this, when I lived in Nottingham.

Was the purpose to allow Central to figure out how many people in the area were watching it instead of YTV or others?

YTV wouldn't be correct for living in Nottingham.

@@christopherhulse8385... Unless you were on cable, where it was offered as an alternative, or in certain eastern suburbs where Belmont provided the only reasonable signal. Sutton Coldfield wasn't technically "right" either.
