Wow what a fabulous fun video! We had a Kirby when I was a kid a million years ago. Sold door to door and very $$$. A beautifully made antique even then. I loved the sander grinding attachment! Unfortunately I sucked something up broke the metal fan blade off and cracked the housing! Wound up abandoned in our basement. Sad. Changing the bag was a vile experience (takes seconds on my Miele). Bless you for so much fun. David in Seattle.

Plant 8; 2005 is the year; May is the month. To polish the machine by hand: I recommend Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish, some terry cloth towels and really fine (0000) grade steel wool. I bench polish mine when I do a heavy duty service on it, but you can polish it by hand and it will clean it up fairly well. I dip the steel wool in the polish and do a circular motion. When there is a gray/ black haze, I use the towel to buff it off. Hope this helps.

Dear Rog, Now that you've got a Kirby you can see something that is amazing to me. The next time that you need to change the bag, examine the bag's contents. You'll find large things that you may have picked up as well as dust. That's about it. If you examine the content of a Hoover bag, and just about all machines with stiff nylon bristles you'll find plenty of carpet fibers in addition. Kirbys are safe for silk and wool rugs and preserve carpet wearing.
@vacuumcleanerwithagun7 жыл бұрын
I put a coat of car wax on my kirbys when I get done polishing them and. It keeps the tarnishing down. But once you get the first bit of tarnish like that off and you keep it clean it generally stays nice for at least 3 years before u need to do a light polish.

I have a Kirby G-3. I woman set it out by the rubbish bin to be collected by the trash service. Well I couldn't just leave it there. It had all the attachments with it just as your's does. I plugged it in and it made a horrid noise. I took it apart to find the twit swept up a matchbox car in the machine, how I don't know. Well it shattered the fan blade. I bought a new fan blade and 2 belts for $ 27.00 and it works like a new one. I personally think this machine is a great machine. I have used it as a daily vac, for 5 years.

You may or may not know this but the green light on the brush roll indicates the brush is turning well if it is solid green. When the light begins to flicker, it means the belt is stretched and needs to be replaced. Also, it is similar to the Nilco in that it has the same system for lowering the brush roll when the bristles become worn down. There is a lock under the base of the handle. When you slide it one way, it allows the Kirby to lay flat. When you slide it the other way, it keeps the handle from laying flat in order to move over rugs, etc. I do notice as the bag fills there is a loss in suction. The bag only fills half way. As I mentioned in another post, they know offer cloth type bags that are better. They aren't cheap but I have some spares I can send if you would like to try them out. The hose suction is pretty poor being a dirty fan motor. This was one of the most popular models. I have the exact same model. Bought it off of Ebay from a vacuum repair shop. I have the same problem with the metal being tarnished only mine isn't quite that bad. It is a good vacuum to get out and deep clean the carpets but not really good as a daily driver due to the heaviness and ridiculous tool setup. Hope you enjoy!
@vacuumtests92257 жыл бұрын
This is just like me. I thought that I will never ever want a Kirby. But for all the comments how good it is I finally gave up and bought one. Now it is my favorite vacuum to deep clean my shag rugs. All other vacuums what I have are MUCH more heavier to push. Kirby is just so effortless. Shag rugs are nightmare for majority of vacuums, but not for the Kirby. Very easy and it really agitates the carpet. Just how world can change! I have G6 Special Edition.
@mattjones76217 жыл бұрын
You're right about that. The Tech Drive helps a lot with that. I have a high pile rug in my room and it can be difficult to vacuum with another brand. I, recently, installed wider wheels on my vintage Kirby and it easily glides through the pile without digging.

My dad bought mom one of these when a salesman knocked on our door and gave a demonstration of how good they are. That was in the 80's and at that time they where one of the best vacuums. Sadly they have changed very little in that time. They are heavy, expensive to buy and maintain.

Most of our houses in 🇨🇦 and 🇺🇸 are a lot bigger inside than most European Flats ..so the Kirby runs perfect in my 5 bedroom 3.200 hundred sq foot home (I've got the smallest house on my block).. Our Kirby turned 30 years I replaced only 2 new belts and 1 light bulb that's it❗️we bought a Dyson Animal 2 as a quick cleanup machine and had a broken power head within 6 months😡 So I'm guessing my Kirby wil still be around in 20 years while my newer plastic machines will need to be replaced every 5 years maybe😂 Cheers from Toronto Ontario 🇨🇦

It's a 2005 model, I own one, and there isn't supposed to be tape on the end of the motor so you are all good, it's an ultimate g with the only 2speed motor, you can put it in drive literally any time, you can't break these things
@wildbill23c4 жыл бұрын
My grandparents had a Kirby Classic 3 for 35 years before the motor finally failed in it. It was heavy and extremely difficult to push on the carpet which is why grandma didn't bother having it fixed. She had a hard time pushing it when she got older. She would have loved a newer one with Tech Drive. I'd like to get a newer one maybe the Avalir 2. The older models I think prior to the G-Series had a dirt cup, they didn't use bags. The newer models with the bags would be the ones I'd definitely go with over the older dirt cup type models with the cloth bag. Some I think you could adapt to use bags, but I don't think the Classic 3 models could be as they were too old. Tech Drive though is a must LOL.

I just acquired my first Kirby, it is a Heritage and was sitting in someone's front yard (free sign) with two boxes of attachments, owners manual, rebuild agreement and hand written notes along with names of owner and seller. Mine was oxidized 10 times worse than yours. Mother's polish and buffing wheels for a drill worked. The buffing wheel package also included rouge which also worked. The area you polished looks similar to mine after hours of high rpm polishing.
@mannys91307 жыл бұрын
Roger, it would probably interest you to buy a Kirby "dirt meter" and a few white paper inserts and a few black paper inserts. The dirt meter attaches where the mini emptor normally attaches to the fan exhaust. It takes the place of a bag and it allows you to easily see how much debris is removed and what kind of debris it is. Vacuuming the bed with a black insert shows you all of the skin cells due to high contrast. I'm so perplexed why some of the vacuums you buy arrive with discolored plastic parts. All I can think of is that they were stored close to a washing machine and the owner used chlorine bleach very often.
@fracturedmind81243 жыл бұрын
Love the Diamond Edition of the Ultimate G! And yes you are right a lot of them did fail because they left it in the half speed and the cooling fan spins slower and doesn’t cool the motor as good and causes it to overheat.

Hi Roger I found your channel when i was searching Kirby belt replacement. i have just bought the exact model of Kirby vacuum cleaner you have there as i wanted a decent upright vacuum as i have the worst possible combination of deep pile carpets and a white dog that shed hairs like there is no tomorrow lol. i have tried all sorts of vacuums i had 3 Dyson's in a year as they just kept breaking and blocking up. i also have a 'Hetty' which is a good little vacuum but the absence of the rotating brush bar meant the dog hairs were an absolute nightmare to get out of the carpets i had to use a stiff brush then vacuum afterwards. I found the Kirby on Ebay and bought it for the princely sum of £50........And WOW what a super vacuum it is it made very short work of cleaning the dog hairs from the carpets they look fantastic now i was almost to the point of removing the carpets and replacing them. but with the Kirby i don't need to do that now. i love the industrial and well built feel of the Kirby and that Tech Drive is really good it makes pushing and pulling easy for me because of a disability i have to be careful not to exert too much effort when moving as my joints can dislocate very easily. the only negative i find is the weight of the machine. and i am impressed that all the parts are available so i can keep it maintained. I love your video's and have watched a few now. great job keep up the good work.

Great machine :) you’ll get it shining like a mirror before too long. It does take elbow grease. But once it’s all polished out it will look great for many years. But it will slowly tarnish again but Every three or four years hit it again with polish and it won’t ever be super laborious to keep looking brilliant. You could even apply a thin layer of carnauba car wax to the metal and buff off to further prolong how long the shine will last.

They're expensive but when the vacuum is still working in 30+ years its not really that expensive considering all the cheap box store vacuums you'd go through in that time....plus I see Kirby now offers a rebuild program where you can send in your vacuum and have it rebuilt for a few hundred bucks...I think that's a great idea to keep a vacuum going even longer, wish I'd known about that before I threw away my grandparents' Kirby Classic 3, although it didn't have Tech Drive it was still a great vacuum until the motor failed after 35 years. The motor itself I think would have been fixable I think the bearings in it were shot.

@williamkinkade21057 жыл бұрын
The normal Ultimate G had the delicate switch, too. The bristles are supposed to stick out 1/16", 1/4" is way too far. The proper cleaning height is _not_ all the way down, it is until the motor tone chamges, then one more click.
