Thank you for this comparison. Great narration too. I just bought that Jackson model. If money was not so tight, I would buy that Ibanez model too. They are both great designs with positive and negatives to both. There is something about 22 frets on a bass that has a comfort to it and happy medium between the typical 20 and the full two octave 24 and I don't know why. Thank God some of these companies are making not just budget models, but short scale models.

Thank you so much. I agree 100% about the fret thing. I have even noticed it on guitars too. I think it is more relaxed and lines up with the natural intonation points on the strings. While I love the 3 octave stretch of some of my instruments the fingerboard has a more intuitive feel on the ones with only 2 octaves. Not sure why either but you hit the nail on the head. I'm glad you got into the Jackson, you can't go wrong with either choice. Happy playing! :)

Both of those basses look sweet - and I agree, if you have to do adjustments...it looks like the Jackson is the clear winner. You really broke them down nicely - I've never heard Dimarzios on a bass (that I know of)...so it'll be cool to hear you put it through its paces. I hope the best for your health man, enough to worry about with playing etc to have to worry about that too. Nevertheless - you put up some great content, I've gotten tons of inspiration from your channel. Keep on rockin brotherman - and a big high five to the pups!!!

Thanks so much, I'm honored to inspire someone so inspirational. I really like them both, the pick ups on these are pretty cheap and don't fit in the pocket without a lot of boosts and cuts. I will put it through some stuff as I get the chance. I like the Dimarzo P&J set a lot, they fit my style well and seem to be plug n play on my music. Yeah the health thing always becomes harder at season changes for some reason, been taking evasive actions and had some good results, thanks for your comment, it helps a lot. The pups give you the loud bark of approval , LOL :)

So sounds like if you updated the nut on the Jackson and filed it down a bit that it would be the much better one with better pickups. Thank you

Did the tiny bit you mentioned at 1:49 really break? I am looking for a short scale bass (this or the squier mini), I like the jackson but i am thinking about that risk of that part breaking...
@peehandshihtzu Жыл бұрын
Not on this one it is very in tact. I only mentioned it because I have seen it on older guitars with this head stock design. Who knows what they were put through to end up that way. I take reasonable cation with mine and haven't had a problem at all. I think you'll enjoy either of the basses you mentioned. :)

Hello, Thank you for the video. I just bought Ibanez Mikro bass, same as the video. What set of strings you suggest? Thank you.
@peehandshihtzu Жыл бұрын
If you are playing in standard E tuning a set of regular gage will be nice. You may want to get the next set thicker to compensate for the shorter scale but that is a preference you'll have to decide on after getting some experience with the instrument. Keep in mind that the shorter the scale length and/or the lower the tuning the thicker the strings you may need to get a proper tension. There is a sweet spot for sure. I personally use a Stringjoy short scale set because the taper at the winding portion of the string fits the tuning head better than a long scale string that doesn't have the taper in the appropriate spot along the length of the string. Honestly this only becomes a real issue if you are putting really thick strings on. There is a point that they are so thick you would have to widen the slot on the tuning post thing a file or something, but for standard tuning in E it shouldn't matter as a standard scale set of bass strings should not only give you the tension you need, not need any alteration to the tuning post and therefore not matter if there is a string taper or not. Other companies make short scale bass strings too but like I explained you shouldn't need them and could save a bit of money as well as have a way bigger variety of brands and price ranges by just going with regular bass strings provided you are in E standard tuning. If you are using a lower tuning or a dropped tuning let me know and I will try to help clarify the limitations of a short scale because there are some. Hopefully this helped more than it confuses, LOL. Also the gauges that came on the bass from the manufacturer is often the optimum size but not very quality, you can't go wrong with replacing them with the same gauges from a reputable brand of your choice. Thanks for asking and subscribing and have a great day. :)

Be sure you get short scale strings. The taper needs to start after the nut so that the string that wraps around the post is thinner. Every major string producer makes short scales. They come in rounds, flats, tapes, and pressure wounds. Cutting long scales is a no-no.

How u rate Jackson quality? , I have seen some bad reviews about thier qc not up to standards after fender acquired the company
@peehandshihtzu2 жыл бұрын
This particular instrument has a couple small flaws that are inconsequential but my white Jackson 6 string had a lot of flaws that did impact the intonation. Meanwhile back in the day a had a custom soloist that was flawless and exquisite! So there might be something to that. :)

@@peehandshihtzu I was surprised that so far no one has compared them, i mean, they are the closest to each other, in terms of price, size and quality. I'm from Russia, and we, simple folks here don't understand all the intricacies and sales policy of Jackson and etc (I hope the translator will translate normally). In general, as it turned out, I like Jackson more by design, but I think Ibanez is also great. Soon he will come to me and I will finally be able to start studying.

@@boimesa8190 It actually is pretty decent as long as it doesn't get altered or over weathered but also a nice strong material would do wonders for a design like this if one were to be have problems. Bone or even a synthetic like Graphtec would really toughen this up so long as it has the right grain orientation/density it would be good. In this particular case it is in great condition and does not need altered so it is just fine even with heavier strings up to tension it remains stable. :)
