One of the best comparison vids I have seen! I just subscribed 😉 The Suhr wins out for me. I closed my eyes and played the video a few times to really hone in on the sound versus seeing what guitar was being played. Each time (for me), the Suhr sounded best. Appreciate you doing this comparison.✌️

The MM1 sounds fine, but it doesn't have the same level of articulation and tone quality as your Suhr. I have a feeling the basswood body AZ242F would be one step closer. Your Caribbean burst Suhr sounds amazing in every demo you have played with it. Thanks for all the fascinating demos of these guitars.

If I can only keep one guitar, this is probably it. Thanks for watching and nice comment!
Great comparison and great playing. The MM1 pickups in the MM1 are definitely a bit more open and have a bit more high end even untapped , where the Suhrs have less highs (covered) and more mids, sort of like some PRS pickups. On my first playthrough, I thought I liked the Suhr better all around, but I played it again and I might prefer the MM1's neck position, with your playing and tone stack of course :)

@@jem555bkk I own about 15+ plus guitars and the MM1 is one of the nicest and most complete tones I have. Having said that, tone and tastes are like undies and socks, just because they comfortable to me, does not mean you like them as well ;)

Agreed. I didn't say that MM1 sounded bad, but in this particular setting, the Suhr has an edge over MM1 especially with rolled down volume.

@@jem555bkk Suhr is about double the price in Australia. So whilst I agree, its not double the tone :D
@jem555bkk5 жыл бұрын
It's like that everywhere, not just in Australia. I'm sure you know twice the price doesn't mean it will sound twice as good. :) Price vs sound quality ratio is not linear. Especially, at the very high end, you have to pay much more for a little difference.

I think that the Ibanez is a good challenger and then the rest is down to personal preference or value for money. Does the Suhr have 10 options for pickup configurations as well?

Getting ready to buy myself a present, I've wanted an MM1 since they were released but have held off. I like the flatter Ibanez necks but feel just at home on a 12" radius as my other primaries are Gibsons or an AS153. Could I ask you honest opinion on the AZ neck? Some say it's too big but I know it's smaller than my AS and one of my LPs (which I play often). Any help would be greatly appreciated! (Wonderful playing as always!)
@jem555bkk5 жыл бұрын
It's not too big for my hand. Having played Ibanez wizard neck for many years, it is still comfortable. I think the Stainless steel frets help too. Thanks for watching!
@tomireunanen80335 жыл бұрын
The 12" radius on the AZ-series was one of the reasons I got my AZ2402 Prestige. The neck really is amazing. Not too fat, not too thin, just perfect. Also it's very smooth and stainless steel frets make bending and legato lines very easy. If you have a Gibson with the 60's neck profile, I don't think the AZ neck is very far from that. Maybe a bit rounder. ( I owned a LP Standard for a long time with the 60's neck ) I highly recommend the new Prestige AZ's
@jorgemlcosta4 жыл бұрын
If possible try it before you buy it. The roasted maple SS fret neck in the Ibanez AZ is one of the most comfortable and playable, boutique guitar level. I tried a LP once and didn’t like it, not really my style, thick and sticky with all that lacquer. The AZ neck is butter smooth and fills my hand nicely. Before you buy check if you prefer a HH or HSS. They sound very different!

Why did you tap the neck pickup on the Ibanez for the neck pickup comparison? That obviously skewed the sound comparison for that part.
@jem555bkk5 жыл бұрын
Cause I wanted to produce single coil type sound. The Suhr doesn't have the switch but by lowering the volume I got quite close to that. The AZ neck pickup sound was too thick even at lower volume. Thanks for watching.
@dominickortega84895 жыл бұрын
That’s my point. The suhr doesn’t have an alter switch so it doesn’t make sense to compare both humbuckers in “SC” sound if they’re both humbuckers (even tho the AZ can has the “SC” mode). They’re both humbuckers so a thicker warmer sound should be compared using the full neck pickups on both guitars. Even with lower volume the suhr neck PU doesn’t sound like a single coil at all. You can’t get a single coil sound from a HB without a coil splitting it and that still isn’t a 100% true SC sound but it’s close. Since you added some gain in the mix the SC sounds muddy and blurry. The proper comparison would have been no tapping and just comparing the humbuckers as is. Just some things to consider. I love to watch all your videos though.
