Actually, Ola the way around the sudden tuning instability is to put on locking tuners AND run them on 11’s. This applies to ALL the Ibanez Mikro guitars including the Mikro basses, except you’ll run heavier bass strings. I recommend the Grover 406C6 tuners for any of the Mikro guitars except black ones are VERY hard to find and if you do manage to find a set, you’ll pay a premium.

Shorter scale lengths (22.2" in the PGM's case) have their benefits and there are solutions to technical problems like tuning stability. Could also be a possible solution for players who have suffered hand injuries, just have general weakness, or limited stretching? Seems like it could be a useful tool for some folks. :)

This was what I wanted to get my 6 year old daughter for Christmas. We dont have the money for a new one but I was able to find a used one on CL. I traded a Mackie 12 mixer for it. Good deal, I had found the Mackie in a scrap pile at the dump anyway.(It worked just fine, wealthy people throw away good stuff all the time. Thanks!) So, anyhow, love the little Ibanez Mikro, cant wait to give it to her so she can start rockin! Poor kid try's to play a full size acoustic and can barely hold it flat on her lap. I tought her "satisfaction" by the stones on just the E string between two frets, but being size challenged, she uses her thumb because it is to big to maneuver right. Cant wait for the 25th to hurry up and get here so she can have an actual decent instrument to play!

I bought my daughter an ibanez mikro guitar a few years back because she is small, but she usually just plays my ibanez because the extra string tension makes it harder for her to play. maybe use the Billy Gibbons .007 gauge then tune it to high A would help with the intonation.

Maybe that's why Randy Rhoads didn't like big, tall frets. Playing those Les Pauls tuned down half a step would cause them to go out of tune too easily. Flatter frets equaled less dissonance...?

Changing the tuners out to Grover mini locking tuners fixes a lot of tuning issues. And stringing with 10’s or 11’s. I love rocking out on these tiny guitars, and I’m 6’4” lol

A set of 11's will take care of the tuning problem - or simply, lighten up. I have one, it's cool.

How about Coffee with Paul Gilbert? Do it, make it happen. I've seen Paul play a few times in person with his solo stuff and it's always a good time.

Might be good to use 11’s, change pickups and locking tuners perhaps…

A more interesting question you could ask is: With this perfectly chuggalicious amp, is there any guitar that will not chug on it?

I got a squier classic vibe telly with medium tall frets. Really have to watch my ape grip on that thingy too, I can almost get a 1/2 step out of pushing down too hard. Playing it really improves my touch though.

So glad to see your right thumb back in action! Thinking about a 3/4 to get my son into playing, he has a lot of fun with metal (he just turned 7, it's a good age to start a proper genre). What do your kids think about your work? are they already sick of you playing in the kitchen, do they think your guitars look and sound good?
