Paul Gilbert from Mr Big takes us on a quick sonic tour of the brand new Ibanez PGM miKro.

I bought one because I’m 73, play out all the time and my hands start to cramp in the 3rd song set. I read from someone on the internet to try using a shorter scale guitar to alleviate this. So far it is working plus the guitar is above the quality of a toy. The fret work was really smooth along the entire length and it stays in tune pretty well. Thanks

I usually have tuned my older Mikro up to standard G ( E is G and so on), but PGM stays in tune also in E-tuning with thicker strings. But I probably tune my PGM up to G cause I kind of like how it sounds.

i've seen videos of short scale guitars and they do go out of tune, the easy fix for this is replace the strings with thicker gauage... maybe 10's or even 11's.. the video i saw was using 11's and it does help... if you're using 9's then chances of it going out of tune is high

Micro guitars are really fun to play. My niece is learning the guitar and has this mini acoustic and it's just super easy and fun to mess around on, but I've also tried some micro RG at the guitar store before. I know some guitarists who might be too proud and only see them as kiddie toys, but honestly pick one up and jam out, it's a good time.

One of my favorite guitars ever and I've owned it for 25 years already is my old Peavey T-15. (Look them up) which has a really tiny neck but it almost plays itself as Paul is telling here.

I always thought it was silly when people make fun of short scale guitars/basses for being "beginner" or "kids" instruments. I recently played a short scale bass for the first time and I actually really liked it! Mr. Gilbert isn't kidding about how much easier it is to bend the strings.

I picked one up last week, and I'm actually pretty amazed how good it sounds, how easy it plays and how good it holds it's tuning. Frankly I just wanted one to hang on the wall with my other PGMs, but I find myself grabbing it daily. In fact it might just become my "go to" guitar to record with. I like it so much I think I might pick of one of the Mikro basses.

Kevin Miller Mind you, those pickups in there are just stock Ibanez Infinity H/S/H set. I have an Ibanez PGM-3 with a set of INF2, INFS1 and INF1 pickups and an Edge III trem. The thing sounds amazingly good stock, and the trem never goes out of tune!

Yep. For $200 this thing is a blast bone stock. I may eventually upgrade the tuners, but I think I'll leave the pickups alone. Where about in Indonesia are you? I just got back from spending a little time in Jakarta, Bali and the Flores/Java/Komodo Island area.

I have two Mikro guitars, and I absolutely love them, BUT...while the scale length and body are smaller, they're still using a full sized neck and full sized string spacing! If they would shrink that down, I might never play anything else.

I hope Ibanez will not mind the following comment: If anyone reading this has difficulty with a 43mm nut, as I do, then you should know that Jackson makes a similar guitar called the JS1X Dinky Minion which has a 42mm nut (even with that, I cannot play anything like Paul Gilbert; such is life).

I am 14 and i use the mick thomson ibanez, which have a wide a neck and i use 11-58 string in drop B, and i never find out that it is hard to bend string.

I bought one. Full review... >The tuners suck. The gearing ratio makes them extremely sensitive, and they detune easily. By easily I mean you can watch the tuning head rotating while bending hard. >The neck pickup sucks. I don't know too much about pickup technology, but the neck pickup sounds tinny and shallow,while somehow metallic. Not the bright high-end squeal Paul is know for. Everything from mid-bridge positions sound good. >Fun to play. It honestly does make it easier to play some long ass stretches. I have pretty small hands and can reach from the 1st to 7th frets. The high end is a little cramped, but I'm getting used to it. The neck is a fairly fat profile and very smooth, with no sticky finish. The fretboard, fret dressing and neck are all smooth, making playing fast pretty comfortable. >Overall: novelty This guitar is a pretty standard ibanez mikro, with very minor changes. (Removed tone knob, flipped headstock, f hole paint) A "real" pgm can cost thousands of dollars, so this is a neat way to get a replica, but it will it no way perform the way a real pgm will. I would only recommend this if you're a huge Paul gilbert fan, and you already have another guitar. P.S. I've painted f-holes on every guitar I've owned because of paul. If all you want is that look, it's pretty easy to make a stencil and spray paint them on.
