I just got my PIA yesterday, powder blue. Yesterday evening I had the exact same time warp experience you mentioned. After dinner I grabbed a beer and the PIA to play for a bit. When I snapped out of my playing trance, it was nearly 2am. That has not happened in a very long time. It was such an engaging, addictively creative experience that I just could not stop playing. It's one thing when it happens to you on the off chance. It's another to hear the same thing from someone else!

Really enjoyed you’re listening to you, I’m of a very similar wave length to you and played the white Jem for well over 13 years, sold it and miss it. It was one of the best guitars I ever owned ( the frets were very worn when I sold it ). The Pia has got me wanting again and yeah like you I was so inspired by watching crossroads and then in turn was hooked on Joe Satriani, even after all these years I’m still a die hard fan of both Vai and Satch, I still have the green 90th anniversary Satriani model but never played it nearly as much as the Jem. The new Onyx Pia looks like the one I’ll go for if I bite the bullet. Knowing me I will 🌞👍

Thanks! Yeah, that black PIA looks nice! I’m about to do a little mod to my PIA... make it more my own. I’ll just change the hardware to cosmo black like Steve’s EVO and get some utopia pickups with different covers. Always wanted a JEM that looked like EVO, but all I could find was one with the gold hardware. I’ll shoot and post a video

If you want a little bit of security with the PIA, you can go to either zZounds or Sweetwater. Both have payment plan options for the PIA up to I think 12 months after an initial down payment. So it doesn't break the bank quite as bad as paying all up front.

I have two PIA guitars. The Stallion White, and the Onyx Black. Both have been amazing from the day I got them... With two minor caveats which were easily forgivable, but nevertheless standout issues which have mostly been resolved after taking them in for basic maintenance at a local guitar repair shop. First is the volume pots. For whatever reason both of mine had a dead zone and lacked a smooth roll off into when the volume finally kicked in. So there were no clean volume swells. Just nothing, nothing, OH! THERE IT IS! And you basically go from 0 volume to 2 volume which is quiet, but not as quiet as it could be if it had a smooth roll down to 1 and below. That got fixed easy from the repair shop so no biggie there anymore. Second, and arguably the more important, is the pinch harmonic dead zones I found in some areas which I actually use fairly frequently. And it again happens on both which the guitar repair shop guys said might just be a quirk of the way the guitar is manufactured collectively as a signature model and not necessarily issues with mine specifically. The 14th fret of the G string for some reason just can't hold a pinch harmonic, nor can the 6th or 8th frets of the B string. There's one or two other dead pinch harmonic spots, but I almost never use harmonics in those areas so I don't worry about them. Again, easily forgivable since you can kind of cheat them by going to the same notes on different strings to get them. But still, it'd be nice if the entire neck didn't have those pinch harmonic dead zones. Ya know? Other than those two little issues, one of which is now an issue of the past and the other which is easily worked around, both guitars are absolute dreams to play! I have no regrets about getting them. Especially the Onyx Black PIA which is just so f***ing beautiful in the flesh!! Pictures don't do it justice. I'm glad you got yourself a PIA and that you're enjoying it so much! Cheers!
@tonlarj379 ай бұрын
Thanks! Yes! Love mine. I have a Onyx black PIA now and love it! Agreed. More stunning in person. Have you tried raising the pickup slug on the string you’re having the issue with harmonics? That sometimes works for that.

Awesome playing Tony! Sounds great. Even if Ibanez's name is on that bridge they don't actually manufacture anything, 'coz they don't own any factories. So it'd still be Gotoh or Schaller or someone making it for them and just putting their name on it. :)

I'm between the black PIA and a Suhr Modern. Mostly leaning towards the PIA, the pickups sound so good. I think I would add a coil split switch but I'm really digging the stainless frets.
@tonlarj373 жыл бұрын
I actually like this better then the Suhr modern. Much better access to the upper frets and more room due the the wider lower horn on the PIA. My hand always hit the lower horn on the Suhr. I’m also considering adding the coil split.There are ways around it by rolling the volume down with hi-pass filter, though. The Black PIA is sweet! I might just get that one too. ;)
@kzcboarder3 жыл бұрын
@@tonlarj37 Thanks for the reply, I saw your video about the Modern mentioning the lower horn interference and noticed I don't own a guitar that would have that problem. I don't really care for the Modern pickups either. I did notice with the PIA that the filter cleans up the tones nicely and if you really spank the strings you can get into nearly single coil sounds.

@tonlarj37 Жыл бұрын
Congratulations! Yes. Use the black square as a level. It usually sits above the guitar body. Also, make sure the loosen the inter Allen screw on the inside of the bridge post before trying to adjust. You can damage the guitar of you try and force it without doing that. Nice playing Tony! Looks gorgeous and you know you've got good gear when you forget about the clock. I'm not such great player to justify getting one, but my eye is seriously looking at the Onyx model out later this year. But a serious question; if you were able to play all 4 models in the shop and this one sprang out, was it more of a "spiritual" thing or did you feel a difference? It's just that if I am going to pay that much for an instrument, I want to have a good feeling of the quality control. I am seriously off Fender Stratocasters for that very reason; no two feel the same. Thanks again for the review!
@tonlarj373 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The differences in the models I played were subtle... the one I have had a slightly thicker "feeling" neck. They must not have sanded it as much? And, I just felt a little different holding it. I really don't know. It was maybe mental. lol I like them so much, I may also grab another one.... the black one and use it for alternate tunings. We'll see?
