I saw one of these today at a store, and I was blown away by its sound and playability. And the even cooler part, the guy working there showed me this $15 pick up? I guess that's what you'd call it. It just clipped on to the headstock, like a tuner, and it hit a wire that ran from it and plugs into your amp. The sound was amazing

It’s called a “piccolo guitar” because it is higher and smaller than a reg. guitar (like a piccolo is higher and smaller than a flute. It is tuned to A which is a 4th higher (not a 5th) than standard tuning.

Hello, may i ask if it is tuned like a guitar?
@delphinekirkland17573 жыл бұрын
@@pansitologist5582No. It's tuned from A to A instead of E to E. Like having a capo at the fifth fret. However, you can still use the exact same chord forms as a regular guitar; the shape of C,G and D and all chords are the same and tabs work the same. I once tuned it E to E. The high E string really was too tinky. Another type of strings might work better. Changed it back to A to A right away. The higher voicing is nice in the A to A tuning. Also, the highest four strings are the same as a ukulele g,c,e and a. So you can use uke chord forms excluding the top 2 strings. Fun instrument.

For those experienced guitar players and musicians, this may sound like a dumb question, but when you are learning guitar with the standard tuning and chord shapes, is there an easier way of constructing chords on a non-standard tuned instrument? I believe these are tuned A to A. Aren't chord shapes on this fret board completely different than an E to E tuned instrument?
@mcstabba Жыл бұрын
You can play whatever you play on a regular tuned guitar on this with the same chord shapes as usual and even though it will be other chords than on a regular guitar the relationship between those chords will stay the same so the song won't sound bad because of that, it will just be in another key. If you put a capo on a regular tuned guitar at the fifth fret it will sound the same chords like this piccolo guitar.
@savagemako17 Жыл бұрын
@@mcstabba Thank you for your reply. It makes sense when I think about it that way, for me, things get a little confusing some times. Music theory for me has a lot to wrestle with. Math was not my best subject!

Other than the tuning, how is that a different instrument than a small kid's guitar which uses standard E tuning?
@MusicalMollyKhan4 жыл бұрын
It's pretty much the same; the idea is that it's a small quality guitar rather than a toy.
@bobirvine63713 жыл бұрын
You'll probably find another difference. The vast majority of 1/2 size (and other entry level) "kids' guitars" are referred to as classical guitars i.e., the top three strings are nylon (or gut) instead of steel. They get called Spanish guitars too and have a more mellow sound. If you buy a nylon string guitar, please don't put steel strings on it; it's not a good idea, trust me!
