I have had this guitar for about a week now and with it, I have rediscovered my love for Ibanez. They did almost everything right here...for a price that can easily be justified.

I've always believed if a person spends more than $1000 on a guitar, a hardshell case should be a standard edition. My LTD Snakebyte came with one and my LTD SC607B also came with one.

@@BlackPhillip666 bullshit. The Gibson semi soft vinyl gig bag beats a hard case, but not the PRS. The PRS one is built like a school bag. Functional. To a point. But sure as hell not Sexy. Having said that, it's leaps and bounds ahead of my other guitar, my Mexican Fender. That Fucker came with nothing but a cardboard box! No strap! No anything! Wait, I might've got a sticker - but that Coulda been for an amp or pedal, I'm not sure... I just know there is a clear ranking in all things with my 3 Axes. And it goes... 1) Gibson 2) PRS 3) Fender *Clearly.*

I have mentioned in multiple posts...I love this guitar. The neck really is to die for, the tones are very versatile, and great features for the price. Although they should have put on an original edge for the money, it's still worth the street price. In fact I dig the Edge Zero. I haven't put this guitar down since buying it a couple months ago. And I am a huge Ibanez fan and own a couple of Jems. This model is very unique all the way around.

I'll preface my comment with, I probably qualify as an Ibanez fan boy, I've always had them and currently have this model along with 10 other RG or Jem axes on the wall. That doesn't mean I defend them or think they are always great, although these axes can be great they are certainly not consistent. Henning, I really like and appreciate your honest observations. I thought your NAMM video at the Ibanez booth was spot on and really one of the best youtube Ibanez visits for the year. Too bad it sounds like others did not appreciate it. I ordered the RG1070PBZ from Sweetwater in February 2017, with production and CITES delays it did not arrive until July 2017. Although it was beautiful, it would not stay in tune AT ALL!! There was a problem with the locking nut that caused it to rock back and forth. I've been setting up these type of guitars for 25 years and this was a manufacturing issue, not assembly or set up. I sent it back to Sweetwater Service and they were great, no one beats their customer service right now. Although it took another two months to get the guitar repaired, (they had to bore out the holes in the metal nut and use different screws to secure it), once I had it back and in playing condition I was blown away. Really, really good for the money, if you get a good one. I feel like this new line brings the Premium a bit closer to the Prestige and J Customs, there is not such a big gap now when I switch between them. There is an attention to detail on the Prestige and J Customs that is not there on the Premiums, you'll see it in the wood work, the finishes and overall precision of all parts together as a whole. Thanks Henning!!

Well that's exactly why not to buy an Indonesian made guitar. You can mitigate it to some extent if you use a retailer that opens the boxes, checks the guitar, does a setup - you might get something that's punching above its weight. But they mass produce junk in Indonesia and they give away a few curated guitars to people who sit and say they're great (including a few signature artists) This guitar is not worth buying though - it's vastly overpriced for something coming out of Indonesia. The problem Ibanez have is they couldn't manufacture enough guitars in Japan so they've done this overpriced premium model to try and earn Prestige money. They've seen people like Strandburg selling Indonesian guitars at a price point for Japanese or USA and they got greedy and hope they can do the same. The specs on this are a joke too 11 piece neck means it's made from scraps - but they tell you 11 pieces as though it's a feature "Ooh, your necks only have 3 or 5 pieces? We turned it up to 11" - the only reason to buy a guitar from Indonesia is because it's cheap. If it's not cheap it really doesn't matter how good it was - if you have money to spend get a guitar made in Japan or the USA. It's absolutely stupid to pay £1500 for one even if it was good - just wait for a sale on a Japanese model or pay the few hundred more - you'd be getting a much better guitar - and don't let any youtuber delude you of the reverse. They'd eat shit on youtube and tell the audience it was chocolate in return for money or free gear. Lastly, someone sending you a shit guitar and then accepting it back is NOT good customer service. Good customer service is sending you a guitar that works. You paid £1500 for a headache, something you had to start fixing or sending back and forth - that's not good. If sweetwater paid me £1500 then sure, I'll test their guitar, but if I pay them I want them to send me a working guitar - anything short of that is BAD customer service.

I have the black version of this guitar and it is a work of art! I love it! At a fraction of the cost this guitar out performs others that I bought for 3 or 4 times the price. I can't put it down. The only issue I have is that the single volume control has no 'gradation' to it. I'm sure there a more appropriate word but the volume doesn't slowly increase as I roll it up. It seems to just virtually come on almost all at once. Like from zero to 80% in the first little twist of the knob. For example; there is no way to do Jeff Beck style swells (violin like) by rolling the knob. This also means that you can't roll the volume back just a touch to clean up the tone. I wonder if I have to install a new volume potentiometer. It was like this when I bought it new and should have spoken up at that time. This is my first Ibanez. Any thoughts on this?

*I like the line.* With some of these things you've just gotta "go with it". When it's otherwise a stupendous masterpiece... I can give them a pass for a minor anomaly - that's i) aesthetic, and ii) subjective I mean, come on!! We're starting to sound like the Princess and the Pea! ...Having a tiff over that! ..Rrriiiight?? P.S. I actually totally dig how it accents the forearm cut contour. While Fender and Gibson are busy doing relic jobs focusing on the wear on this forearm contour - I quite like the idea of Ibanez doing a space age interpretation of this. Because where Fender & Gibson do "Vintage", Ibanez does "Modern".

That line makes absolutely no sense on an otherwise beautiful top. It should just smoothly transition into the body wood. Seems like it would even be less work to do so. But...get the charcoal burst and you can't really even see it.

Man, i just ordered the Genesis Rg 570, which was always my dream superstrat. but after seeing this.. i'm thinkin' this will be mine, oh yes it will be mine.... I put locking tuners on almost all my guitars for the same reason so easy to change strings...the trem on these I think are the Edge Zero 2, which is better than the "DL" that the lower level INDO Rg's come with, but man.. all these great details and extra's like the 11 piece neck, locking tuners, they are Luminescent side dots and then they go w/ like one their cheaper Chinese made Trems. That's just a huge step back.. if I do get one, that will be the only thing I'll need to change out, so whatever.. Think they should have put an Original Edge on it for sure..

I gave a bit of a negative comment on this before but recently scored an RG970QM (really similar to this). I totally agree with H, it's an amazing overall package. The slightly thicker wenge wizard neck he mentions is the big winner, best Ibanez neck I've ever played. Love the case too! Unless you are actually Vai's support act you don't need more of a shredder than these premium RGs

The tops are really variable so ask for an actual photo of the guitar before buying it. I checked with almost 10 dealers before buying the one I liked. And Henning is right, it’s soo goood! The bridge can be blocked with 2 nylon cable ties in 5 minutes to convert it to a fixed bridge. The line is not an issue as the rest of the guitar just blows you away, lol! You don’t see it most of the time anyway. Best purchase I made in years.

There is the old Premium logo on the soft-case. I’m agree with the “script” type font as standard for Prestige, Premiun and signature series NOT on Iron Label. In the other hand, that guitar looks and sounds fantastic, if you don’t want the line at the arm rest, go for RG657 or RG652 (both in Poplar Burl top). Most Premium guitars are over US$ 1199 and Iron Label are US$ 699 - 1199, probably the fret treatment or soft case are not included because that.

I have this guitar and been playing it for about a year now. Yes it is amazing to play and look at. Love the shape of the wizard neck and feel. The only down side is all those 11 pieces of wood in the neck, Not as stable as solid maple. I have to adjust the neck several times a month depending on temperature to keep my action consistent. I'm Ok with doing it, I like the beauty of the wood ! I also got rid of the pick ups and put Gibson's 496 R and 498 T which made the guitar sound bigger and better to my ear .

I had a previous version of this guitar, the RG970 in red burst with the same trem, and the trem arm system was actually a deal breaker for me, so i had to send it back. I just couldn't get it to work for me, it was either too lose and the arm had a play (which is bad) or it was too tight, which would have worked if it didn't get loose very quickly and get a play after a couple of turns. I tried a bunch of tricks and solutions but none of them worked.... At one point i was even thinking of modifying the arm socket so it would fit the edge pro style trem arm, but it is just way too much work. So yeah, they screwed up really bad with this trem arm system, otherwise it would be perfect, because the trem itself stays in tune really well and the guitar is really good.

its an extremely good guitar. though you would need to set the pickup heights to your personal taste and the whammy feels stiff other than that its an amazing piece of wood. i have this guitar and i love it

You mention the iron labels not having bells and whistles. Can u elaborate? Are u taking about the case and set of tools only? Im about to order an rgix6dlb.

Hi there! You are absolutely amazing! Well, id like to ask you, if you like trem loaded guitars, which would you choose for the best buy, ibanez s1070 or ibanez AZ premium?

''Travel on a plane'' you can buy a seat ticket for the guitar, although I hope it wont cost an arm and a leg as with a ticket for a Human.. Might vary depending on which airline you take.

As much as I hate the Ibanez edge zero ii bridge, I do have to admit, the locking nut they use for it is super comfortable. Its different from the traditional Floyd Rose/Edge locking nut. Doesn't dig into my hand at all. All locking nuts should be like that.

What's wrong about Edge Zero ii?
@Unchainedmaple888
@Unchainedmaple888 6 жыл бұрын
Mutant Baby The edge zero ii is a pretty cheap made in China tremolo and don't have the intonation adjusting tool from the original edge zero. Because the trem arm is screw in, it rattles inside the trem, unlike the pop-in arm of the regular edge. If you're not going to be using the trem much, it's fine, but I still wish the premiums came with the original edge instead or at least more hard tail versions. Also the Zero-Point system seems a little annoying but also super useful at the same time. Inspite of these problems, it's still way more comfortable than your usual Floyd Rose bridge.
@mutantbaby1672
@mutantbaby1672 6 жыл бұрын
Good point. Yeah, the intonation adjustment is pretty retarded. Does the knife edge last as long as the original Edge tho? I believe I've seen a hardtail version of this but it's a 7 string with no middle pickup.

Not sure because the Edge Zero II is made in china, so I really have no idea. The original Edge is made in japan by Gotoh so I wouldn't question the durability of the Edge knife inserts at all. I would look online and be careful because Ibanez also has the original Edge Zero bridge that they still use on their J.customs and can't be sold/used here because of patent infringements or something.

The intonation adjustment system for the Zero series is GARBAGE. It requires the base of the saddles to be domed, so it doesn't make proper contact with the baseplate, and there's a strip of RUBBER that provides the actual CONTACT in the back. Take it off, all your sustain goes away. Take apart an Edge Zero or a ZR2 if you don't believe. Get an Edge Zero II, replace the arm housing with a Schaller for 20 bucks, and be happy forever.

I’ve seen those veneers attached by gluing it on the guitar then sticking it in a vacuum bag. The vacuum compresses everything and flattens it out. I’ll bet something happened to that piece and they let it pass inspection. They should have sprayed more blue to completely cover it up. An instrument at that price shouldn’t have any big visual flaws like that.
