Ibanez SDGR 506 Nordy

Ibanez SDGR 506 after I upgraded to Nordstrand Dual Coil pickups and Nordstrand 2B preamp w/ passive tone control. Also added a coil-split switch.

Very nice upgrade! I have a '96 SR-1206 (basically a N/T & Exotic Wood version of the 506) that was my main bass before I moved from neck-thrus to J-basses & bolt-on, single coil-equipped basses (Main Players are Custom Euro Bolt-On Spectors & Mike Lull Modern 4 & 5s). It has the pre-MK1 Ibanez-branded "AFR" pickup & 3-band preamp setup that I actually prefer to the entry level Barts - very EMG-like - but as I'm not a huge fan of the crisp EMG-tone and think I'd use the Bass more if I gave it my "preferred Pickup & Preamp upgrade" that 4 of my 5* Spectors have: Nordstrand Big Singles & Aguilar OBP-3SK/PPs. Thanks for splitting the coils in your demo, as it gave me an approximation of how Big Singles would sound in the platform! *an aside: do you know of any manufacture that makes Reverend's "Split Brick 5 Neck" EMG soapbar-sized 5-string Precision type Pickup? I'm tonally not a huge P-bass fan but realize the need for it in my Toolbox, and have one of my Spectors set up with the pup arrangement from Fender's '95-'08 "American Deluxe Precision" (the version with the Dual Coil pup at the bridge) which gave me some of the Missing Mids I get from my J-type Single Coils. I'm making do with an EMG setup (40P5 & 40DC) and would like to lose the "EMG Clean", but am limited by the Soapbar form factor. Any help would me greatly appreciated by this longtime BP subscriber! (I have Issue #1 with Geddy and his '80s hair in my collection, from around the time I first picked up the Bass... ;-)

Hey I have ola 506 also and im looking to upgrade my pickups n pre also. DID those pick ups fit the bass good or did you have to make the hole bigger to fit them??

Had to make a hole … easy work with a dremel. The Barts are unusually narrow.
