Finally. A bass demo video of someone who not only knows how to play bass and clearly enjoys the hell outta doing it, but isn't doing a demo where it's a 4 minute long slap/pop fest. A bass player and a drummer. THAT's a bass demo vid.

Brian Fassbender ... And a nice rig, too. I’m just getting back into bass after a very long layoff and it’s a painstakingly long process to find a good combination of bad/rig. Tone is subjective, but value is big for me, too (buying used is ALWAYS an option). Always loved Ibanez basses for both reasons. The amp/cab is a much harder search.

Agreed. Most music store "bass player" demos show me nothing of what I want to see or hear.

I love slap and pop but its so overdone. Especially for a bass like this which is more like a double bass

I have the Ibanez SRH500 and I absolutely love it. To be honest, I was shopping for a Fender Pbass or Fender Jazz. I tried out several and just couldnt find the right fit. I kept coming back to the Ibanez SRH500 and after a few hours of a (10 minute run) I made the purchase. I was reluctant at first as I tend to play heavy handed at times. The SRH500 forced me to adjust my hand position as there is no pickup or thumb rest other than the higher part of the neck and fret board. But dont let that fool you. It is very comfortable to play and I found myself diving into the dynamics of my playing and chops. It immediately inspired a variety of riffs and runs that delivered a smooth and near upright meets fretless tone. With flatwounds the SRH500 has a unique sound. Very rich and warm. I fell in love with this bass and have a hard time putting it down once I begin playing. I love the feel over all and its light weight makes for a longer endurance when playing. The pick up system gives a great range from nice brights for the poppers and tappers out there to a thick and robust bottom for the deep tone players. A near Jaco like tone straight into the amp, I have no doubt that true bass fans would enjoy this instrument. As a Prog Rocker I was accustomed to a heavy wood and rugged instrument that could endure the relentless transitions between pick, slapping, popping and fingering. Dont let the light weight fool you. This is a sturdy instrument. I am loving the magic it has delivered and its unique sound has inspired non stop chops from delicate harmonics to thunderous low end. The Ibanez SRH500 has made me very happy and I know the Fender Lovers out thee will be like "WHAT!!??!" But I have no regrets in this purchase. Two thumbs up. BTW, the demo video here is outstanding as well. Truly represents this instrument and how it sounds.

Can I use an acoustic guitar amp with this, or does it require a dedicated bass amp?
@jazzman19545 жыл бұрын
Jack Miller An acoustic guitar amp might work for practice in your bedroom. It needs a decent bass set up otherwise. A guitar amp won’t handle the bottom end.

I just bought this bass (LOVE the guys at Chicago Music Exchange) - this is a gorgeous instrument and sounds even better. I play double bass in an orchestra and have fun mixing thing up at home. I played a few other hollow bodies in this price range and up and this instrument beats ones considerably more expensive. It has a rich sound that makes me feel at home. As Ben states, it’s well thought out and is comfortable to play all the way up to the bridge. Granted, I had been hacking around on a beginner Yamaha and a fretless 1970s Hondo, both of which are now for sale . I may have to find a band to join. Awesome job, Ben. THANKS

These are phenomenal sounding instruments! Played one recently at a music shop, and although it is a bit awkward for sitting position, due to the body depth, on a strap I can feel the meshing of acouatic sounds and SR playability is perfect! Still wish Ibanez would bring back the fretless talman intertour semi hollow... The closest any bass guitar has come to dupicating the sound of a standup bass 😩

@1:18 To me THIS sound is more like the upright sound I would prefer than the sound previous to it.There and when you talk over your playing, the sound is VERY "upright" sounding. Congrats to Ibanez and Benjamin, who should change his name to Benjamin' :^P for coming with great tones musical examples on this instrument. Playing really close to the neck or on the neck makes the sound have a "rubbery" tone a la Steve Swallow which I don't care for. It's my personal opinion, so don't bash me for it.
@catboyzee7 жыл бұрын
My only real nitpick is Shepherd didn't use the same plucking techniques for both basses. With the fretted he played over the fretboard, but didn't do so with the fretless. It would have been nice to see if the fretless had a similar 'upright' sound as the fretted does. Great demo at any rate, both great sounding bass guitars.
