The Gippsland Water Factory in Morwell is crucial to the region's wastewater recycling. To optimise their energy usage, Iberdrola Australia was engaged to design and construct a 1.2-megawatt ground-mounted renewable energy system. This solar farm, featuring 2,400 Longi bifacial panels, was engineered to meet the site's unique challenges, including its low-lying location and flood risk. Iberdrola's team carefully upgraded the factory's electrical infrastructure, including switchboard enhancements and cable capacities, to seamlessly integrate the additional solar generation. Extensive engineering efforts ensured that the new system would have no adverse effects on factory operations, allowing the Gippsland Water Factory to operate independently of the grid when needed. The system is now optimised to prioritise solar energy, biogas, or hydro generation depending on conditions, making it resilient and efficient. Iberdrola Australia is immensely proud of this project, not only for its substantial environmental benefits but also for overcoming its complex challenges. This project is a testament to Iberdrola's commitment to delivering innovative, sustainable energy solutions.
