9:58 Order of operations is wrong. PEMDAS (BIDMAS) dictates that exponents come before multiplication. So the 1.02 would need to be squared first before multiplying by 100. For simplifying fractions, another method is to divide across top and bottom. So for the second multiplying question, you can divide the 3 and 6 by 3 to get 1 and 2. Then multiply across to get 1/16. Now for when explaining BIDMAS, it should be noted that D and M are what comes first, as is A and S. So in 5x6/2, you do 5x6 first even though D is listed first. Other than those little sticklers, thank you for making the video.

thought i should put this here but when you do bidmas or pemdas you need to remember that division and multiplication hold the same precedent. same goes for addition and subtraction. you have to solve your equation from left to right. so if you have 5x6 + 4/5 - 4 then you would multiply 5 and 6 then divide 4 by 5. then you would add the product and the quotient followed by the subtraction.

I love this video, but you gave the long way around of finding the percentage of a number. You can find the percentage way easier than that. i.e., 15% of 22 can easily be found by solving it as 22 × .15 The decimal takes 15 from being a whole number to a percentage of the number 1, so instead of adding up all those different percentages you can just do one multiplication problem and go on to the next question. I hope this makes sense to everyone out there reading this. I am no Math guru, but I do understand this area of it thoroughly.

The section about keeping track of the 1st and 2nd differences in number sequences was very useful for the test (I took it this past week). In the past for pattern questions like this I would just look at it and think about it and the pattern would not be that hard to find, but using the method described here made EVERY pattern recognition question on the test a near-brainless endeavor. From a real-world practical point of view I don't think the patterns that I saw in the test were necessarily realistic, so were not easy to identify intuitively. And I have a bit of a problem with the idea that like 15% of the entire math test score uses basically the same pattern type over and over, which highly favors anyone who happened to have been taught to look for that specific type of pattern. No exaggeration, all of the patterns were just analyzing the 2nd differences, none of them used multiplicative factors, prime numbers, squares, cubes, nothing. But, it is what it is, and thankfully I decided to watch this video even though I didn't feel I would have any problems on the test. I probably would've passed either way, but the method made it way easier.

Has anybody ever seen a compound interest question on the IBEW aptitude test? I've never seen it mentioned anywhere but here.
@whatohokay5 ай бұрын
The local I tested for didn't have any questions from chapters 2, 3 and 4. I got a lot of questions from chapters 1, 8, 9 (just a little more complicated) and 10. Some problems ended up with me solving fractions (adding and multiplying though) so brush up on that. I got several questions about analyzing functions and function information analysis as well. Calculators aren't allowed on the test and you'll be given paper and pencils. Just thought I drop this info so that others know what else to brush up on.

Bidmas or pemdas explained that way makes a lot of people make mistakes, which is why there's all those 'solve this problem' stuff on facebook that people mess up. Each two letters are the same step. So it's more like (Pe)(Md)(as). Brackets and Indices are solved on the same step as are division and multiplication, then add and subtract. Within each step you go left to right. So if you see 3-4+5 you do the whole thing left to right, not addition before subtraction.

So I took Local 11 LA and 440 OC here in SoCal. This video DOES NOT apply for Local 11. Look up mechanical reasoning and arithmetic solutions on Google with word problems. Also a bunch of IS over OF problems. For 440, THIS is what’s going to be on the test but if you can afford it, iPrep has basically a 1:1 tests of what they have in the actual test. Technically iPrep was harder but prepared me for the aptitude test

The study guide they provide is similar but on a scale of 1 to 10 that study guide is a 4 versus the test is a 10. Theres gears, pully, weight questions like if this cart weighs 20kg and it’s on a steep hill versus this cart is 40kg and is on a stable flat hill what will happen etc. word problems such as if there is 96 screws in a can, 2/3 are in can one. 3/8 in can 2. 1/4 in can 3 and 1/3 in can for. how many screws are left in the four cans A) 11/16 B) 9/16 C) 13/32 D) 19/32 Study stuff like that

Number patterns is very important, so is solving linear equations. You will almost certainly have multiple questions of each of these on your test. As of today multiple of both of those were on the test.

When finding the percent of a number can't you also just do this method... For example: Find 32% of 174 32 % times 100 = 100 32% times 70 = 22.4 32% times 4 = 1.28 Add the answers from each one and you'll get your total which is = 55.68 Just times the percentage by the next milestone (ones, tenths, hundreds place etc) Don't forget it's not 32 is 32 % when ur multiplying !!

Everything was good, except finding the percentage. You only have to move the decimal two times to the left in the rate and multiply it by the number and boom! That's the answer. For example on the first problem, 0.12 * 80 = 9.6.

Yes.
@divinetimingneverlate4442 ай бұрын
I just asked the same thing? But PEMDAS places multiplication before division and BIDMAS does the opposite
@fisforfriendship6093 Жыл бұрын
simpler better way is jut to pretend the percent sign doesnt exist then move the decimal over to the left after you multiply the two by 2 places over if its 10 percent, 1 place over if its 1 percent, 3 places if 100 and so on very simple i just learned it.

When finding percentages of a whole number, if we divide by 10, then divide by 10 again you get the one percent value. Theoretically you can just multiply that value by whatever they’re asking for right? So 12% of 80 1%= .8 so .8 x 12 =9.6

Question for those who took the test, were there a lot of compound interest questions? The examples used here were so simple it made sense, but I was trying to study the subject a bit more using other videos and it can get extremely difficult without a calculator.

@dariospezio21527 ай бұрын
The formula says "(1 - depreciation % as a decimal). Which means a 10% depreciation rate will be represented as "0.1" and if you plug that into the formula that's "(1-0.1) =0.9. Good luck on the test champ.
@desmondjones98883 ай бұрын
@@dariospezio2152what formula is that called? Because in America this doesn’t make any sense the percentage gets moved over twice to the left making it 0.1% what part did he say in the formula that -0.1% is supposed to be apart of it? When and why and where did he say that and how does that make sense? As a matter of fact the practice test question actually gives a whole different answer than the formula he’s using and I got it right the way I did it that -0.1% doesn’t even make sense
