Wow so cool. I was like them when I was their age. We took a (sand) dune buggy, put a small block, made it 4-wheel drive. Then took it to the park and went thru 24-inch snow which was the best we could do. Ah the 70's, now I'm 66 and don't get out much. Man, I miss those days.

Im oldish too, more 80's but I don't recall traffic jams. Love doing what they're doing and still have a tracked offroad vehicle with a set of Camso tracks but I ride with a buddy or two at the most. Any more than that, and you end up rescuing people all day or waiting your turn. I'm too old, cranky, impatient and do this to get away from people, not wait in line behind them. Merry Christmas. 🎅

Having the snow Groomer & Sherp with is a smart plan! Looks like you all take your time and make it a fun experience for all. That’s the way to do it, like we did when we were kids in the late 1970,s & early 1980,s with our dad in our 1947 Willis & 1976 Bronco at Dresser Wisconsin. Great times with good responsible people who know what to do. Looks like some need bigger tires, our dad liked em tall so they cut down to the hard ground better. We seen a 1970-72 GMC K-30 years back with 60+” tractor tires on it with a hi winding/roaring well sorted SBC going through our ditches that were as deep as you got here with big drifts also. It busted em like nothing. It was So fun to watch them going through that much snow so effortlessly!. All of the rigs you all have built here are awesome. I have several favorites! Great Video, Thanks!!

We go wheeling in the woods when it snows here in Northern NY too. I modified a few old snowmobile tracks with 1/4-20 bolts through them for traction pads if I get really stuck. They've saved the day quite a few times and they roll up with a bungee around them, I just strap them to the roof of my woods beater. Works in slimy mud during the other seasons. Growing up, and living in New England, I am no stranger to playing in the snow. But this? This takes a special kind of person to do. Its friggen freezing cold, you constantly get stuck, when something breaks, its a nightmare to fix in that environment. There is no harder wheeling then in the snow.
@nutsmcflurry37372 ай бұрын
17:59 if you had a tow bar on the front of this rig, and a hitch on the lead rig, you can push a lot of snow. We used to do this with four wheelers, up to four in tandem. Of course when you do get stuck stuck, it’s a real bitch getting out. We didn’t have 800hp or a Sherp.

The wheels itself looks good for this job. The problem is on the middle part - between the front wheels, where truck sits on the snow with its bottom. A first idea: You can try to install the cone on the front of the first truck - to move the snow away to the sides. So it will work like an icebreaker. A second idea: The bottom (frame) of the truck must be much higher from the ground.

Very impressive rigs! I've seen rock crawlers that had a disk brake mounted to the FRONT differential's pinion shaft. But at 18:27, I see that the Chevy pickup has the same mounted on the REAR axle. Why is this done? Do rotors and calipers mounted at the wheel get jammed with snow/ice? Also, what are such special purpose axles called?

Great video and awesome rigs. I wheeled all that area back in the 80’s. Of coarse a little more remote then. But my question is ? When you have roads why are you out running over new growth trees? It’s the bigger picture.......Reasons they close down more areas every year.

I am surprised that the tires are so wide! We have skidders that go thru the forest in the winter thru 4 feet of snow to haul cut trees out for lumber and the tires are at most about 8 inches wide and they never get stuck. They go where there are no roads and the snow can be chest high. They haul about 8 or 10 trees out going up hill to boot. I would bet if the tires were a lot narrower they would have no problems!!!
@BrettMcNary Жыл бұрын
lol. no. You get stuck in snow because you high center. Skinny tires achieve that instantly. Your skidder wouldn't make it 10'

I don't know why some people seem to believe that narrow tires are effective in deep snow and ice. It's just not the case, wider+taller tires with a greater surface area contact patch are better. They help you float above the snow rather than sink into it and high center.
@joshuaplacka84802 күн бұрын

Sweeet rides! Im from the vw baja/bus world and I cant help but wonder how a lighter vehicle say a baja bug with a 1.9 ahu diesel would perform. I guess y’all get away with it because of horse power, but when I moved to the mountains of Montana years ago, one of the locals told me to get rid of my wide mud tires and get a narrower all terrain. I had to pull myself out from being stuck several time with the mud tires, and not once with the all terrain. I know now it also makes a difference if we’re talking ice, packed snow, or deep fluffy snow.
