If you look at offroad logging trailers, they have a feature to help get around obstacles . Basically, it's a tongue that pivots left to right hydraulically. Might add more complexity to a simple design but being able to move the trailer left to right from the cab could really make that more effective branch remover. That design is really effective if you can get it closer to the trees. The only other thing I've seen is a lane shark that mounts on front of something and allows you to brush hog vertically. Iveseen one in action and it seems to work well up to 2" branches.
