Had my paper 1 and paper 2 yesterday and today. My teachers actually told us the same things over the years already so I did not benefit greatly from these videos but I do believe a lot of people found some confidence and good tips in them so good job

Honestly at this point, getting high grades in the IB is more important than learning the content itself. Education is changing so much these days.

You gotta find a balance in these things. You need to learn, but honestly if it wasn't for tests I wouldn't learn as much or put it an as much effort as I did. You need the two, but not either exclusively, and definitely learning should be the priority.

Point, Evidence from text 1, evidence from text 2, explain together, link together - this is how I would do it, but whatever structure you feel will fit in one paragraph and convey the point the best.

One thing is confusing me, my english teacher has explicitly said NOT to mention anything about the author especially their personal life because the author writing is different from the day-to-day author. I am not sure who's advice I should consider.

+Ben Nguyen That is terrible advice. Even if you disregard this video, there are plenty of exam advice advocating the use of the author and his/her life to illuminate the text. One credible example, is inthinking's paper 2 tips, point 5 clearly shows that we need to include points from the authors life. I find it hard to comment on the context of the author in relation with the texts. I know the relation, however I am having trouble writing a paragraph on it. Could you just dedicate a whole paragraph on how the background of the author is sigificant to the content of the text (excluding the guiding questions)??

Hmmm, I don't think that's a good idea if it doesn't have any relation to the guiding questions. However, context of the author always influences a text, usually hitting parts like language, style of writing, characters chosen etc. and usually the questions ask about this. so id recommend to research more on your author if you're having trouble finding information that connects to the questions.

There's no formal word count (I think there's a minimum of 200-300 but I'm not sure). Personally, I took SL and I aimed for about 8-10 paragraphs. It really depends on how many points you're trying to make.

+Sukhdeep Bhangal maybe I should have been a little clear about this in the video, learn only quotes that you know are very significant to the text and it's overall meaning. If your text has only 5 of those, learn 5. If it has 20, learn 20. If you can't figure it out, try to remember the ones that stand out on litcharts.

I don't remember if you did physics and/or chem, but are you thinking of making a video with some neat tricks for those two? Also, I wholeheartedly agree with you, people overcomplicate the Paper 2. To be honest, it is kind of fun to write a paper two, as you get a question and you are forced to be in the classroom for 2 hours contemplating it, you can end up with some surprisingly good answers and thoughts. Personally, while I also feel the pressure now that it is an actual exam, I feel like people should be a little more focused on coming up with good answers(while dragging in stylistic devices).

Just highlight the key words in the question and try to make it work for your text. Don't over complicate it because majority of the questions are very similar and open so you can create a line of argument as long as you support it!

Do a mini plan of the questions - see my planning video for tips - and pick the one that you'll be able to write quality on. A lot of questions seem good, but after planning you realize you don't have enough to write a good essay on it. So plan a bit first, and pick accordingly.
