Thanks for this! Tip from many years ago for anyone who might be googling this video... RTC errors can be temporarily cleared, and the system settings reset, by holding down both mouse buttons while powering on. I can't remember now why I had to do that way back when, but if your PS/1 of this vintage is stuck in a weird mode and you can't get to a DOS prompt or the Four Quads, this might save the day.

That’s a great tip and would’ve come in really handy in a lot of my testing! I will try it soon. Thanks!

Another youtuber pointed out that there are 2 ground pins on that chip so you may not have to cut 2 holes in the plastic casing on the chip to get ground. I've yet to modify my chip. Excellent video 🙂

Lots of good information in your videos about the PS/1. I had to replace a capacitor in the keyboard of mine to get it to work properly.

Cheers Tom. I think I’m going to need to do the same for mine to stop the incessant beeping. The mouse might need a cap refresh soon too.

Great vídeo. I am trying to restore a PS/1 2011 as well and my floppy drive reads the disk and the first sectores but delivers sector not found to the rest of the floppy. I have checked capacitors and aligned the drive but the problem continues. Will try to make this repair to see if it works.

I think I had similar problems. Errors 161, 162, or 163 at boot mean a DS1287 fix is worthwhile. Otherwise your chip might be OK for now. Other floppy checks: Does CONFIGUR report a 1.2MB or 1.44MB drive? Also, have you tried formatting a floppy in your PS/1 to see if that disk is then usable?

@@fooglestuff faulty drive aside, the 2011 has the weird quirk to have floppy drive not working if the rtc is depleted and there are no configur settings... It causes to headbash a lot of people since how unique this "quirk" is

@@MasterControl90original Thanks for the feedback :) I'm learning all the time with this thing.

@genkidroid I've found that "Sector not found" often means the drive has been detected as the wrong type... most likely the PS/1 thinks it is a 1.2MB drive when it is actually 1.44MB. My next video should be out soon which goes into this in more depth.
