You get one bonus point for being from Ohio. Thank you for your service. When I went to Benning in 1971, it was called IOBC and it was 8 weeks long. Vietnam was the hot topic and we spent most of one week with a simulated village; insets, extraction, boobytraps, trails, etc.
@AdaptorDieChannel Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for sharing! 8 weeks is awfully quick!

Super cool to get this insight for a civilian. Just interesting to hear about the things the military focuses on.

I am glad to hear it! I had a great experience at IBOLC. The course is what YOU make it. If I could do it again I would use my time more wisely and push myself in the gym more while not in class or in the field. I would also have meal prepped better and really focused on my fitness and nutrition. Just my two cents looking back on it.

How was ranger school?

I didn’t go. I could list a bunch of reasons why, but it comes down to allowing my fear of failure to stop me. And now I’m in a season of my life where major issues are coming up in my health and family, preventing me from even going if I had the opportunity to get a slot. So morale of the story: don’t be like me. Fear of failure is just one more hurdle to overcome. Those that are successful and accomplish their goals have failed the most.

Use it to the limit. You can get in good shape there. Did the old IOBC. Sounds like the course is a totally different animal now.

Appreciate the Info brother. Looking to go from being enlisted Navy to Infantry Officer and this was exactly the type of information I needed to know. Was an Armorer for the Seabees and had to learn a lot of stuff that I'm now glad I learned given my future plans - planning/briefing patrols, fireplan sketches, land nav, etc. Now to brush up as it's been a while! Again, thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Saves me the time of talking to the recruiter about some of this stuff! 🤣 keep kicking ass!

Was your hardest ruck march a 12 mile or a 16 mile? I thought I saw another video on IBOLC where the guy said they did a 16 miler.

I am will be going to IBOLC in a couple of months and I am active duty. What do you recommend I do for housing situation prior to arriving?
@AdaptorDieChannel3 жыл бұрын
There is a ton of housing around base. I personally did not look into places because I am NG. With that said, I would look online and Google- “best places for IBOLC students to rent”. You will be down there for a solid year- IBOLC, Airborne, Ranger, Air Assault, RSLC, etc.
@tylersaytan45773 жыл бұрын
Hey, man I'm going to IBOLC in a month, question: am I required to attend/attempt RANGER school rightafter, or I can take a few months to prep.
@tylersaytan45773 жыл бұрын
??
@AdaptorDieChannel3 жыл бұрын
If you are active duty, the guys head to airborne then Ranger directly. If you’re NG there isn’t as much pressure. Either way, it’s your CHOICE to attend. With that said, all active infantry units expect you to have your tab. If you don’t, it’s a lot less likely that you will lead a platoon. I have not attended Ranger school. With that said, I would recommend going directly after IBOLC. Life gets ahold of you and family comes first. The things you learn at BOLC will prepare you for Ranger but if you wait, a lot of that stuff you don’t use, and you’ll lose it.

Where does active stay? I saw the guard get to stay in Abram Hotels which look crazy nice. Also can your spouse come with?
@AdaptorDieChannel4 жыл бұрын
Active gets their own housing... you have to get an apartment prior to starting IBOLC. Abrams was AWESOME. If you are active duty your spouse should come with but not NG.

@@AdaptorDieChannel Did you actually have time off on weekends? I’m pregnant and my husband wants to bring me with him. I just want to know whether I should go with him or stay in my hometown and just visit once in a while. My due date is around the same time he graduated😂 so I don’t want to stress him out with all of it and I don’t know how the course works so I don’t even know if he would be able to be apart of it.
@AdaptorDieChannel3 жыл бұрын
@@diannalopez8925 hey there! First of all, I would like to congratulate you guys on the baby! Prayers for all three of you there. It would depend. If your husband is active duty, I would recommend you move with him and get a place to rent ahead of IBOLC starting. If he is active duty, I would expect to be down there for about a year (IBOLC, Airborne, Ranger, Air Assault, etc.). If he is National Guard he will be staying at Abrams Hall (an IHG Hotel) during his time at IBOLC. Afterwords he will have an opportunity to go to Ranger School so he will be gone for a while. In turn, if that is the case I would not recommend that you move with him. I’m regards to “time off”, your husband will have weekends and evenings off work unless they are in the field. The course curriculum has probably changed a bit but when I went we were in the field A LOT. Also, during his time off he will need to (or should be) studying and doing PT. So the amount of FREE TIME is pretty minimal… but there is some! I hope that answers your question. If not, just let me know and I will do what I can to clarify wherever necessary.

Are you able to have your phone with you?
@AdaptorDieChannel3 жыл бұрын
At IBOLC you have the weekends off and are able to have your phone with you while you are in Garrison. Some Soldiers kept their phones with them in the field, however depending on your cadre that is a no go.

Why was land nav hard? I know they do day and night...
@AdaptorDieChannel4 жыл бұрын
Land Navigation has never been my strongest skill and it was deathly hot and humid when we were on the Red Diamond Course. That being said, when you do land nav focus on the basics: know your pace count, never RUN (but move with a purpose), double check the points you plotted, and be confident.
