Hopefully Ibrahim can get his emotions under control in the coming years. If so, he's guaranteed top 3.

Elias as usual playing spectacularly. Ibrahim, however, impressed me. I dint remember him being this solid and controlled. He was too spastic before. This tournament he turned something on. It’s a bit less obvious vs someone like Elias, but vs gawad he looked near unbeatable at times.

He's still improving his game hey, gets better every year - as you'd hope I guess lol. Good old elias just gradually suffocating his opponent makes things hard though

Who the heck thought glass is the right surface for the floor?!

Its a specialist and non breakable 'perforated' glass, that allows sweat to run through tiny holes, thus reducing risk of slipping, and negating time wasted for towel boys on the court. The glass is manufactured to be non slip, and as you can see there were no incidents of slipping unlike other court surfaces.

@michaellupton335 it's meant to do that but hasn't been great. The pros hate playing in it and that should tell you something if the players you are putting up the court for aren't happy with it !

They are kept there for the players to keep their towels to wipe sweat between games

What year was that introduced? Are they allowed to touch the towels during a game? If it's only between games then what is the point really....
@georgekrumm1857

@@tbiffard It was a COVID-era thing originally - I think it was to keep players from wiping directly on the side and back walls the way they traditionally did. It stuck because there has been growing recognition that excess sweat represents a serious safety issue for the players. It isn't only between games. Players can, and often do, request to use the towels when sweat is building up on them, the racket grip or the court. The ref often tells them no if he thinks they are just trying to get a break.

Probably nothing wrong with the floor. Playing squash outdoors is moronic. Don't forget the humidity in HK which can be controlled indoors. Super high humidity on glass. What could possibly go wrong?

@@michaellupton335 That's all well and good, but is missing the forest for the trees. The floor just isn't right, and it is dangerous. Maybe it would be OK if it was the surface the players practiced on, but it looks like it would make their movement into the shot substantially less explosive, which isn't really what we want.

The engineer who introduced glass flooring should be sacked and never get a job again. How can one even think of glass flooring for squash baffles me. And any idiot country which uses such courts should be banned from hosting in future imo.
