What exactly does a Superintendent do on a daily basis? We spent a day with Caleb Kattner, a Superintendent for Reece Albert, Inc. to show you exactly what it's like.

BOOM----- That was cool. I like how he was allowed to describe the job. Describe the importance of having a good team and all the positives that come together when a person finds themselves in good working surroundings. I also like how the direction of video was done, almost as if I was on a ride-along. thank you for the upload. #constructionknowledge #enjoylife

Do you have to have school & experience to be a superintendent? Or just experience?

I've been in construction for 4 years. There are people who go the experience route without much for my education and there are those who may get a degree and then going to the field. If you have access to the financing I strongly suggest that you get formal education before coming into the construction field. Experience is valuable but credentials can get you a lot further. Unless you have already gained some Hands-On field experience I recommend spending six months to a year as an entry-level construction worker. The insights you gained from the experience may prove valuable to you down the road. I have run into situations on job site where people who were in charge had credentials but little to no field experience and projects suffered as a result. That's my two cents. 💯

I 💯% agree with field experience first. supers who only have schooling and no field experience seem to always have there projects suffering.they almost always have no clue what is going on. I have been a forman for 5 yrs now and it is the most irritating part when your jobsite super is clueless.

I been in the medical field since 1983 I just retired in April. I relocated to Maine to help my wife with her family. She lost three members in the last 2 years and about to loose 2 more between now and March. I would like to be trained if it's available.

I'm a project manager, and I had a whole mess of signs come up missing too, this video really made me chuckle because I can relate, I've been through this! I order my Superintendent extras he doesn't even know exist snd theyre stashed on our sites. I work for a large Housing Authority and our dang signs get stolen all the time. So this is an issue with road construction too, I'm not alone lmao 😂

He doesn’t need to edit like y’all keep saying. He’s showing a day in the life. These are the types of phone calls we take ALL day long. I guarantee you they edited when he went to throw his phone out the truck! 😂 In comparison to a fire protection company superintendent such as myself, this is a slower pace. Pretty much everything is the same shit I have to deal with everyday though. Kinda cool to see.

One of the superintendent's I worked under recently was responsible for placing bids for new jobs as well as facilitating the work done on a current project. Foreman and superintendents made primarily play roles as supervisors making sure that the work done on job sites is up to the specifications and that the work is being done in a efficient and timely manner according to the schedule. Scheduling can either make or break a project depending on how well things are flowing. How accurate things are when it comes to specifications is extremely important. Some margins of error can be as strict as an eighth of an inch on civil construction sites. I hope this helps provide some clarity as to the role that the Superintendent plays. SN: I'm an Operator. I've never function in a supervisory capacity but have worked under different Foremen and Superintendants on construction sites.
