This time we look at how the IC-705 memories are organized and how to access and program them. You can follow along in the IC-705 Advanced Manual on pages 7-1 through 7-5. Companion Website: a-2-z.tech/

I watched about an hour of your IC 705 videos and went out and purchased a new IC 705 from DX Engineering today. Thank you for the videos.

Thanks Tom, I have had the rig for a couple of years and didn't think of using the memories, but I wanted to prep for a repeater net this evening and didn't want to be fiddling about. Google pointed me straight to your video and all was revealed. I like the 705 even more now I understand memories, particulalrly the GROUPS method. Excellent video. Terry

For IC7300 which has only 100 memories, 00 to 99, I set first memory location starting 01 to all ham bands. starting 20, I saved seberal shortwave broadcast radio stations. 30, for others. So with the limited memories, we still can group it. Thank you. 73

what is the memory scan speed ? looks like a great radio, thanks for the 705 a to z videos, you do excellent video's and easy to understand. your the man ! thanks again...
@HamRadioA2Z4 ай бұрын
You can set the scan speed to Slow or Fast. I believe Fast is 5 or 10 channels per second.

Thanks Tom! Just spent a rainy afternoon here organizing my 705 memory contents. Nice not to have to erase and start from scratch when you come up with a better way of organizing. In my Call CH memories (4), 144 CH1 & CH2 are duplicates as are 430 CH1 & CH2...spent too much time trying to figure out how to remove the dups. Thought it was something I had done, but even though you scrolled through your Call CH memories really fast it Looks as if yours are the same too. 😝

Thanks for the kind words. The video was already getting pretty long. So I had to leave the call channels and some other features for another video. Yes, the default frequencies for the call channels are the national simplex (US) frequencies for 146 and 440. Honestly, I don't find the Call channels very useful. in order to use the CALL button to quickly take you to the channel, the radio has to already be on 2 meters to go to a 2 meter call channel and it has to be on 440 to go to a 440 call channel. You might as well just go to a regular memory.

I love this set of videos. What is the setup that you're using at the start. I have issues in that I never seem to get contacts. Do you use any ground wire?
@HamRadioA2Z4 ай бұрын
I was using a Comet Toybox portable HF whip when I filmed that. I did have a counterpoise wire of maybe 15 feet. Honestly, I haven’t been overly thrilled with the antenna. I have never been able to get it tuned to a decent SWR. My son recently got a portable vertical with an adjustable coil. (The toybox has fixed taps). He got it on Amazon, but I believe it is identical to the MFJ-1898. It seemed to work really well when we tried it a couple weekends ago.

thanks for a good informative video BUT there is no mention anywhere how to program a repeater channel with irregular shift, thanks

Hi Tom, I've programmed a couple of repeaters into my IC705 but when i select the memory channel it doesn't show the name i gave it? Any thoughts how to do this ? Cheers Patrick M7HLA
@HamRadioA2Z Жыл бұрын
Hi Patrick. In the settings menu under SET -> Display -> Memory Name. You can turn the feature on or off. Even if you have it ON, the memory name won't be displayed when you have the spectrum scope display on.

Is it possible to scan all the memories in a specific group?
@HamRadioA2Z2 жыл бұрын
Hi. Yes. While in Memory mode, hit Menu then Scan. Press and hold the MEMO soft key. A window will pop up with choice for All Memories, Select Memories, etc. scroll down in that window and you’ll see any groups that you have programmed. Just touch the group you want to scan.

Is there a setting to have the Name of the memory displayed in place of the Frequency?
@HamRadioA2Z Жыл бұрын
Hi Chris. Not that I know of. You probably already know that it displays the memory name in small letters to the right of the S-Meter and below the frequency. The only option I am aware of allows you to turn that name display on or off in the SET-->Display menus. I don't believe there is any way to display the memory name only instead of the frequency.

Hi, do you know how I can "skip" memories when scanning memories? cant find that information anywhere
@HamRadioA2Z6 ай бұрын
You can’t skip memories. The 705 has a feature that is the opposite of that. When you are on the the Memory menu or the Scan menu there is a SELECT button. When you press that, you will see a *1 under the memory number. You can press SELECT multiple times to cycle between *1, *2, *3, and blank. Set all of the memories you DO want to scan to the same * number. Then, in the Scan menu, press and hold the MEMO soft key. You will get a pop up that gives you the option to scan ALL Memories, Select *1, Select *2, etc. The Select options will only scan memories designated with that * number.

Can one memory be in multiple groups?
@curtohalloran75822 жыл бұрын
Yes... select the memory, select memory copy, navigate to the group you want to put it in, select the memory you want it it in, Select memory write, Overwrite-yes. You will still have to edit name if desired 73
@Qwiv2 жыл бұрын
@@curtohalloran7582 That sounds like a duplicate of a memory and not a single memory in 2 locations like in a current yaesu.
@curtohalloran75822 жыл бұрын
You’re correct. The way I have my radio memory organized, the duplicate still serves my purpose. I suppose in some cases it might not, especially if you had to edit that memory for some reason...you would have to edit it and all the duplicates. 😜 I don't know of a way to have one memory in two locations on the 705 as you describe. 73
@HamRadioA2Z2 жыл бұрын
Yes. I believe that is correct. I think internally, the 705 treats the group and channel as just the upper and lower digits of a 4 digit channel that can go from 0000 to 9999. So if you want the same thing in 2 different groups you need to use 2 memories.
