As an electrician, I with tin cables were made to aluminum as that is actually used as cheep wire. It's brittle and not as good as copper but is often used for temporary power or when you just upsize it to save costs over copper. I've burried a 2 phase with full sized ground (4 wires total with neutral) to power the lighting in an industrial yard. It was 3ot if I remember correctly and could have been reduced to 1ot (don't have the NEC in frot of me so probably wrong) if it was copper but it would cost almost twice as much at the time. Material price was high then and as it was burried, the wire expanding and contracting (another prblem with aluminum) was not as much of concern. Expantion couplings did the rest even of the lot owners completely burried one of the ends.

I remember when this was the tech mod everyone had to have and I'm so glad it's back with the classic block art to boot. This mod always felt like the progression was just right in that it never felt like the next machine upgrade was too complicated to make, and always worth it. I like how there is so much to do in this mod as well. It means you won't get bored any time soon unlike some mods that don't give you a break from the singular linear progression it has that always plays out the same.

I always loved IC2, in part because it feels so natural, and it seems to so seamlessly fit into vanilla, just extending it into atomic and scifi tech age. The electric furnace is literally just a stock minecraft furnace, but powered by electricity. Base generator burns coal like a furnace. Simple and intuitive. All items have very straightforward names which make sense and let you know what the item does at a glance. Electric furnace? Of course, smelts things. Compressor, compresses items. Pump, pumps liquids. Geothermal generator, probably has something to do with lava, one can quickly guess. Now, what the hell is an "aQuEouS AccUmUlaToR" from thermal expansion supposed to be? Oh, it's just a pump / water creator. Mekanism has "energized smelter"...? Is that an electric furnace? okay...? And while I perfectly remember what each item/device in Industrialcraft does, I swear that I unironically can't remember at all what the "chemical dissolution chamber" or "chemical injection chamber" from mekanism do (I only know the names because I've looked them up on the wiki just now) and would be unable to tell you even at gunpoint, even though I've played that mod. Other tech mods are flashy, but all seem so out of place, like they don't belong in minecraft. It's like a content from a separate universe slapped on top of minecraft, vanilla be damned. Meanwhile, Industrialcraft almost feels like an expansion pack to the base minecraft. There's crazy stuff out there in the late game, but the departure from stock minecraft is so gradual that it just feels natural.

Good review, I feel the same way. Recently started a tekkit server with friends and went straight for industrialcraft items. There are some really cool machines that do similar things from other mods but IC’s integration is just so intuitive. As it so happens I’m now ridiculously far along the tech progression while the rest of the guys are still setting up their basic machines/magic crafting and I chalk it up to how easy it is to scale production with IC.
@woofcaptain8212 Жыл бұрын
Yeah the progression and feel of ic2 has yet to be beaten. It really felt like with ic2 you played default mc but happened to have machines, and those machine were intuitive. Everything else feels too easy or hard and doesn't really fit into mc for me. Not to say other tech mods are bad but I have a special place in my heart for ic2 lol. Maybe I'm just nostalgic for my childhood tho

AFAIK the latest IC2 Classic does have built-in EU to RF or RF to EU converters, but that's the only cross-system compatibility that it has that I've heard of.

I rather like the addition of Rare Earth to this one. Yes, it's an obvious time game. No, I don't have a problem with it. It's even thematic. The random additon of scrap or UUM into the higher tiers of machines in order to make sure you couldn't just do them without spending time in the mod was a bit more obvious of a time gate. This one just blends right into the science theme. As irridium was mentioned as not being in world, there's still the requirement to go back to scrap/uum to get iridium and that tier is using the old system, but that too just seems to work.
@Speiger Жыл бұрын
Technically your rare earth extractor is your progression machine. Since Aluminium is created there too. And I also made the iridium recipe visible by default. To make it easier to figure out how to create it. Though that's the only uu recipe that i made visible xD

Aluminum should spawn naturally, it’s gonna look like tin so just like anything you see that’s white. It’s not particularly rare in the modset im using so you should be able to get it pretty easily. If it’s not spawning in ANY caves then you probably have a problem with your mod list.

Somewhere along the lines I started thinking in terms of full belts and factorio. Can't have something that makes a full belt eventually become not a full belt, might mess up the system. Better to just plan for it to not be a full belt and run twice as many. On the other hand, in my lab, where I'm tinkering with things, doing my hand crafting, sure, I'll keep it stocked up, a copy of every machine, maxed out. The other machine, well, it'll be like a golem, left in a hole, pumping water, walled off, and forgotten.
