A really nice demo of the value of optical mixing. I was wondering if you could do a video at some point on techniques to move from being detail focused to being looser, but without loosing the cohesion and structure of the image. This is something that seems to be a more awkward step to take while trying to avoid the loss of the recognisability of the subject. If you can’t do it, it’s fine, I know you are a very busy guy. Love your videos and your art, and I’ve learned so much from you. CMY all the way!

The Real Mythril Great idea, the answer may not be simple, but that'll be my job to distill it to the essence of what that's about! Leave it with me! 😀

I have just found your videos on colour, many thanks. I use acrylic paint, and have TriArt Zinc White which I was told I could use for mixing. Does every manufacturer of Zinc White acrylic use the same ingredients or is it the zinc that is incompatible for mixing acrylics? I have just spent a couple of hours watching your colour info. You are amazing. Thank you.

Jean Rutka I'm using Wallace Seymour paints in this video. Since then I interviewed them at the studio. Got through lots of info and at one stage they explained zinc white and acrylic. Anything called 'zinc white' acrylic is likely to be a substitute or 'hue'.

Hi Scott, I am binge watching all of your older videos as well, and I loved this video! One question: will you be painting on aluminium again in the future? And why/why not? I'd love to know :)

Great question, the surface is a challenge, I love a challenge, but only when there's time! Once I get the other side of my Paris exhibition I might tackle another sheet of anodised aluminium

Hi Scott, thank you for the video! Just wondering about the use of zinc while, I have heard that it's not a good one to use as it can cause cracking?
@ScottNaismithArtist5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it can dry quite brittle. I use plenty medium within the glazes so its not a problem. avoid too much in early layers, straight from tube or turps thinned applications. oil applied in later layers will get absorbed in previous layers though. When mixed with other colours it becomes less brittle, taking on properties of the colours it mixes with.

That's really good to know, thank you! I have a 225ml M. Harding one here and I was afraid to use it! I know it's better for mixing.

M Harding also do a Titanium/ Zinc hybrid worth checking out. @@janaforsythart5745
