So we're back with Schneider's Bakery discussions with an iCarly video. Today we're talking about Freddie Benson and the bad luck he seems to be dealt on this show. This character has gone through so much pain just for cheap humor, all of which he didn't do much wrong to deserve it. So... New commentary it is!

Freddie's one of the sweetest guys in the show, even nicer than ditzy Carly herself. He puts up with a lot of BS cause he's so passive. Not saying he can't defend himself, but I think he refuses to stoop to anyone's level. Sam for instance. She's such an aggressive character that bullies everyone that gets in her way or upsets her, unlike Freddie. Take the iKiss episode for example. Although Freddie pranked Sam by handcuffing her to Gibby, she took it way too far by telling everyone his secret that he only wanted Carly to know, which led to the entire school and fanbase picking on him. It got so bad, he missed school. Freddie wasn't perfect but he deserved better.

Their friendship dynamic is actually sadly realistic. Sam doesn't has many friends, which is why she hangs out with Carly and is really protective of her. Freddie also doesn't have many friends and he has a crush on Carly. Carly likes to abuse her position in this. The best friend and the boy with a crush on Carly will compete for her. I saw boys who let the bullying continue, because they want to be near their crush.

In one episode Carly said that it must be sad for someone to love someone and them not love them, and looks at Freddie and says sorry. In the beginning of the show Carly cares but later she doesn't care at all and sides with Sam in many situations. And Freddie really deserved better.

Carly definitely manipulated Freddie and used the fact that he liked her so much to her advantage. There wouldnt even be a webshow without him cause not only did he do all the tech stuff but wasn’t it his idea? (If I remember correctly). The only time Freddie was a jerk i can think of is when they all threw that Anti-Neville party but even then Carly and Sam were in on that too, so you could argue he was influenced by them. He definitely deserved better as a character

The interesting thing about Freddie is that unlike a lot of “nerds” and this is no disrespect to guys like Matt Bennett, but Nathan Kress while playing Freddie literally grew up on the show and went from being a pre-puberty kid to actually a really good looking young man in the end! So he really grew out of looking like a nerd in the end but because he’s the nerd he had to act like one and be treated like one. And it is interesting that he did get treated like an absolute dork throughout essentially the entire series! I did like that there was time where he did have a few iCarly webshow fans into him! I will say I think part of why he got teased and stuff is because he did say some weird things sometimes, but tbh everyone is flawed and we all make mistakes so he shouldn’t be treated any differently In regards to the things with Freddie getting bullied by Sam. I guess it was just the gimmick of the show really, and as you said it wasn’t all that equal and got repetitive! But sometimes it was hilarious watching him get hurt like with the Boomba orange game. And yeah I agree the Seddie arc is strange, like it is weird that all of a sudden they start dating when he treats her like crap so much! Haha I also hated his mother being such a soccer mom btw. That definitely got very repetitive for me. Especially since Freddie literally grew up on the show and it was cool when he decided to move out in an episode!

The crappy apartment probably wouldn't have worked but they would somehow convince his mom to let him stay at Carly's for a bit until his mom finally agreed to treat him right or he would've found his own apartment

If I was a writer for iCarly: Sam beats up Freddie after Freddie did something *small* to Sam and she overacted, and Carly comes to see Freddie running out a door, with Sam also in the room. Carly shouts "What did you do to him!" Then runs off to look for Freddie and Carly finds him looking depressed while crying. Carly talks to him and Freddie says "I've had enough of Sam, but if I do anything about it she'll do something horrible to me!" Carly says "Just stand up to her and say something hurtful back, I mean its either that or kill her with kindness." Freddie; "but I'm afraid of her alright! I just can't" Carly would say, "Is there anything I can do to help?" Freddie says "Would you talk to Sam for me? Don't tell her I sent you to do that" Carly says "Sure," *kisses him ik I'm a shipper shut up* Carly says, "Sam?" Sam says, "Yeah wsp Carls?" Carly says, "Well I was just talking to Freddie, he said you punched him, why?" Sam says, "He said I'm aggressive and rude." Carly says, "Sam, you kind of are." Sam says, "Am not!" Carly says, "Yeah sure, Look, Freddie and you kind of have a love hate relationship. Why can't you be nice to him?" Sam says "Then who will I be mean to?!" Carly "Nobody! Now, go apologize to Freddie and SWEAR that you'll be nicer to him" Sam says "But wh-" Carly says "I'll buy you a ham, and a turkey." Sam says "deal!" *she'd apologize to Freddie and show kids and finally be nicer, like not abusing him, saying really hurtful things, or calling him out. But ofc she will still be mean because its Sam. I think it would be cute (for Creddie lol) And also teach kids that Sams not a role model ;-; BAI

The episode “iBalls” make absolutely no sense. Rather than insulting Freddie for the fact that he’s no “creative genius” he should be encouraged to know how passionate of his tech and why he’s the key to iCarly in the first place. I would expected him to be cheered up and learned that you shouldn’t compromise who you are to meet other people’s standards. That’s the lesson it should’ve have but we got nothing but garbage because terrible writing keeps demand innocent characters to be ridiculed no matter the cost.

Yeah that’s really unfortunate, easily the worst part about the episode for me is anytime they do a joke about Freddie being unimportant to the show. Luckily, the Spencer subplot with his assistant is pretty solid. It’s a like-able friendship and the manage to get some good jokes out of the whole thing.

In the Ican't take it episode. I thought Ms Benson was in the right about how Freddie should stop dating Sam. But worst part about that episode is that we are supposed we route for Seddie and that Misses Benson is portrayed as the villain

Yeah the worst part, to me, is that the whole episode they go on about how bad Sam and Freddie are and give many reasons why they should break up, and then it just switched sides at the end WITH NO JUSTIFICATION. No reason as to why Gibby changed his mind. Sure he says “it’s wrong to interfere with young love” afterward but that just feels so cheap, so badly written. It’s laughable, until you realize they’re trying to be serious about it in the arc. They are playing it straight.

I feel like drake and josh are treated badly too because they get punished for stuff that Megan did and sometimes its not just Megan in the episode Battle of Panthatar they get uninvited to the party because drake kisses their friend Thorton's girlfriend even though Drake says she didn't know she was his girlfriend and even when they give Thorton a Beetles album they still won't invite them and to make things worse Thorton invites Megan. I still like the episode cause I thought it was still funny in most parts but I don't like how their treated in the episode

That episode drake and josh got a really good pay of though. They got the album back, two lightsabers and costumes from a movie they like, got two hot girls with them. Thorton also lost the album drake gave him and several other 🎁, and his party got ruined by them since they couldn't reenact the scene. Well that drake and josh got mistreated in the show that wasn't really a good example since the ending had a payoff.

One thing I noticed is how even though Sam snd freddie have such a abusive friendship, Freddie’s the first one to defend Sam for her actions, and sams the first person to help/defend Freddie over something. Idk if it’s just the fact Freddie likes the thrill Sam brings, or what, but even tho they have a confusing friendship I will say they’re always there for each other, like Freddie even took sams side against carlys. And they both teamed up against carly on multiple occasions

I said it once before iCarly needed an episode that explored the possibility of Carly and Sam trying to manage to do iCarly without Freddie. Freddie was constantly taken advantage of by both Carly and Sam. Now we all knew Sam wasn't that great of a person but the one who claimed to care about Freddie so much throughout the entire series more and more she continued to berate Freddie and never stopped Sam or his mother from doing as much as they did to him. Like I said there should have been an episode or a series of episode where Freddie's patience just snaps and he just says "I'm done with all of this" quite similar to how Josh did on Drake and Josh.

There’s a fanfic of Freddie finally fed up with Carly and Sam (takes place after the Half-oween episode) he focuses on himself by getting a job that he really enjoys, getting more into fencing, made some new friends and is in a band and even got himself a girlfriend who genuinely loves him.

I would’ve honestly think Freddie should’ve gotten new friends cuz that whole dynamic between Carly, Sam and Freddie was super abusive. But Freddie thought he was in love with Carly. So if the only choice to be near her was to also have to hang out with her abusive bully of a best friend :/ Carly tries to stop it but she doesn’t see how much Sam hurts freddie mentally. Bc Sam treats her like a princess. She is legit the only person Sam will never hurt. Heck even when shes annoyed at Carly, other than their “breakups”, Sam will just direct her anger on whoever is closest I.e. Freddie so Carly doesn’t get hurt. Sam was way too possessive to let Freddie hang out with Carly alone and early season 1/2 Sam was very sensitive and insecure about losing her best friend. Just look at how she was with missy. Carly was everything to her. Heck, she loved Carly more than she did her own mother and sister.

Ikiss turned me off the whole seddie thing. It is not appropriate or healthy to have a relationship where the victims gets involved with the person who beat him up for years. Really sends a bad message to kids. If they wanted to start Sam and Freddie over with a clean slate and have no insults or abuse, then that is a different story. Having Freddie like a girl who humiliated him over the internet to the point that he was too shamed to leave his house?? A girl who THREW him out a tree house and beat him with a tennis racket?!? Does he enjoy pain??? Sam was very unemotional/ cruel during the earlier seasons and she did not care how badly she hurt Freddie. That kind of behavior should not be rewarded and it was so out of the blue how she “fell in love” with Freddie after hating him for years. She doesn’t even apologize for beating him up. Even during the ikiss episode, she feels no guilt at all until Carly gets upset with her and is disappointed and angry. THAT’S when Sam decides to apologize. Not because she hurt Freddie but because Carly got upset by her behavior. Her actions always revolved around what Carly said.

I honestly think if there was someone else writing the show, it would seem alot less bad. I still like the show, but now that I think about it, Sam and Carly do seem quite manipulative/abusive in some ways to Freddy. If anything, I think Sam would be the worst, I mean if you pay attention she's always trying to bring Carly into things and take the blame for her. Peer pressuring almost. And the way she treats people is terrible too.

iMeet Fred is considered the worst episode of the show because of how mean-spirited it is. Freddie gets harassed and bullied just for saying his own opinion about not liking Fred. And honestly, I kinda agree with him because I used to think Fred was a creepy person and never liked him. This is why this episode is the lowest rated episode of iCarly just terrible of how bad it is. And Freddie doesn’t deserve to be bullied or treated horribly because he’s a nice person and he’ll do anything or Carly or heck even Sam sometimes. But he just gets bullied and treated like crap. This is one of the reasons why I don’t like iCarly that much because Freddie is a good, loyal and trustworthy person and he’s the tech producer of the show and helps them all the time. He really liked Carly and even though Sam bullied him, he still helped them and did anything for Carly (If you remember iSaved Your Life which is the highest rated episode) but the way Freddie is treated makes me so mad and sad for him because Freddie isn’t a jerk or mean. He’s a good friend but life just hates him for some reason. But still iMeet Fred is still the worst episode of iCarly EVER!

Freddie is probably the nicest guy on iCarly yet for some reason somebody says hey iCarly is a mean spirited show so how do we make it more mean spirited let’s have he nicest guy in the show be the one who gets all the abuse I want to talk about some Freddie torture episodes the first one I’m gonna be talking about is an episode I actually like but something really bad happens to Freddie in this episode the episode is iKiss in this episode Freddie tells to Carly that he’s “never kissed anyone” (cough cough Valerie) and it was very private and he says sam can’t know only for Sam to be ear dropping so she tells everyone live on iCarly that he’s never kissed anyone and that ruined his life the reason I liked this episode is that it was more realistic than an episode I’m gonna talk about Freddie wasn’t physically tortured and the Sam realized how much of a horrible person she’s been and apologizes on iCarly and to Freddie Thats why I love iKiss , now I’m gonna talk about the most hated episode of the whole show iMeet Fred before I talk about the episode I wanna mention that I’m probably the only one who noticed this that episode is called iMeet Fred and it’s so misleading because they don’t meet Fred till the last 5 minutes of the episode anyways on to the episode Freddie gets physically tortured because of his opinion and he’s forced to say he likes Fred and he thinks Fred is not funny so gets tortured Freddie is the one who apologizes 😱😱😱😱😱 but Fred says he doesn’t forgive so sam beats with a tennis racket to say fred is amazing ok I want to hit Fred’s face with a baseball bat because he told his viewers that he’s canceling his shows because of Freddie’s opinion that was an awful episode easily the worst and theirs another episode we’re Freddie is tortured I’ll admit I use to like this episode but I rewatched it last week on Teennick and it’s really bad the episode is iMust have locker we’re sam and Freddie’s have to share a locker and same decorates her locker and plays a vidoe in it anthen Mr. Howard is coming so she gives that guitar to Freddie and everybody runs away so Freddie has to take the blame and then Sam changed the combination but decides to not have it because she misses having her locker next to Carly only for her mom who had lazer eye surgery and drives and destroyed an entire school wall sam gets into the car and mr. Howard sees Freddie and Freddie takes the blame again first this is not fair Freddie didn’t anything wrong and Sams and her mom aren’t talking responsibility for their actions and Sams mom could’ve died for driving after lazer eye surgery she could get injured why does she make a stupid decisio who let her go into the car and drive ( if your wondering no we don’t see Sams mom in this episode we do see her in another episode iSams mom ) iBalls was a good episode for 3 reasons 1. Carly has the least screen time in this episode ( I don’t hate her I Just like that theirs an Episode that she’s in that much 2. Their are some really funny jokes and 3. the relationship between Spencer and his assistant was really good those are my reasons I like iBalls now I don’t how Freddie is so miserable in this episode nobody thinks he’s funny when tries so hard and the other time he uses 3D only for everyone who saw the viewers to have vision problems , iBalls was a watchable episode but the thing freddie is didn’t , I did like the subplot with Spencer and his assistant , I actually do recall an episode were Freddie was a jerk thiers an episode called iTwins were Sams twin sister Melonie is visiting and Freddie thinks Sams pranking her if you watch that episode you’ll get how much of jerk Freddie was in that episode

I like that it was shown that freddie had potential to have a better life but the people in his life already, are the ones who made it more difficult for him to finally be happy. There were a lot of girls besides sam and carly that were interested in freddie romantically and thought he was cute and smart and stuff. The problem is that the people around him (carly, sam, his mom) would manipulate freddie into thinking they were the only ones who actually cared about him and it was so messed up. I do think if freddie respected himself more and gave some of those girls a chance that would’ve been interesting to see but he disregarded them for carly and sam which was so bs on the writers part.
