If you are leaving a place for some time, put the important things inside a fireplace for example - it should survive any storm if built on a solid base. Just pick them up and place when you return.

It may be worth crafting a biofuel composter (and pestle and mortar for tree sap) at each forward base that has equipment fueled by biofuel. Don't forget a fuel can (or 2).

You need lightning rods by your wood base. Stack poles so they are higher than the house. The lightning should set that alight instead of your house. Place a few stacks around the house - 3-4 should do it for your larger house. Don't put them too close. The idea is to attract the lightning to the poles instead of the house but not too close so the burning poles set the house alight.

But the rods won't defend my base from the usual storm damage...

@ No, but your roof won't burn. The rods get hit by the lightning, not the house. If the fire gets a hold you stand to lose most of your work so far. Wind damage is reasonably easy to stay ahead of as long as you don't build a mansion... Fire damage, if not stamped out quickly will not only destroy your house, it will give your graphics card hiccups!

@@theuselessgamer I've seen it save a few houses. I've seen them in flames. They get put out, I don't think they burn so easily. They do work as the sacrificial lamb (usually - I've never seen them fail, but...). Just place a few around the house. It would be annoying if you put one behind the house and lightning hit the front! It's up to you - your game your 'rules'! It's a suggestion/tip/hint as nearly all my posts are.

@@itsmeagain1745 And im happy about your posts! :D Thats why i said i never saw a housefire from a lightning struck. I found my lightning rods being damaged a couple of times and i found a glass roof collapsed after a couple of stroms but thats all. If you say there is a chance to being burn inside a house in a storm then i will build rods. :)

Use an axe or pickaxe to break up the bones - they will not keep breaking like the knife does...

Yeah theyare more durable than the knife but they give me less bones and leather and in a hurry you need a knife.
