The Typhoon is a SSBN with nukes and The boat you sank was a Victor II a SSN an attack boat.

Frederik Royal The Russian name for the Typhoon is the Akula or "Shark". Typhoon is the NATO reporting name. There is an attack submarine with the NATO reporting name of Akula as well.

the Akula is not a Typhoon. akula class are the best the Soviet navy had for fast attack nuclear powered submarines. Typhoon class ballistic missile submarines were the largest submarines ever built, twin hulled, nuclear powered and they most definitely were not a fast attack submarine.

The hostile contact in this mission was most definitely not a Typhoon class ballistic missile submarine. It was, as the name said, a Victor II class submarine, however, the sonar computer thought it was a Typhoon based on its sonar signature, which is similar to that of the Typhoon.

That's not a Typhoon. Typhone is an SSBN, ballistic missile sub. Your target appears to be a Victor 1 SSN (attack sub).

too much speed at surface is called cavitation. it actually causes the water around the screw to boil at the tip of prop.

Doesn't necessarily coincide with depth per say, you can cavitate at deeper depths when at full speed. Most sub screws are designed to compensate or negate it for the most part though. but basically cavitation is a cavity or pocket of air in the water, caused by quick changes in pressure, such as the wash from a propeller. You can cavitate at lower speeds near the surface, while being able to move faster at lower depths, but you can still cavitate to a point, especially when reversing the screw rotation, or even applying an abrupt increase in power from a low speed.
