Great vids. PULSES: generally hard - like chick peas, lentils, dried peas etc - they require soaking before cooking, OR, were ground up very v fine and used as thickening -for-soups/seasoning/or to make flat breads. Very rich in protein. (I say 'were', but still are).

I am not so sure the game programming team knew much about cooking and their knowledge of the past was limited to a few history classes in college. I seriously doubt the professor wanted to turn his history class into a cooking session and cover the details about recipes. If the professor had, the game might get into a bit more details about cooking scrolls being marketed along with spices and such things. Even salt and pepper would be an important trader item if the game was more into details, of which there would be no end.

Bread decays faster than Grain and flour. Store flour and make them to bread when you need it. Also bone harpoon and wools are great for trading. Always get a great surplus of them.

That makes sense, but what the villagers do with resources seems to be something players don't micromanage all that much, if at all. Obviously the traders only had one huge round of bread and no other options. Not even simple things for cooking like salt and pepper.

You mention that you'd love to see a game that goes from cavemen to advanced tech. Well ... there's a megamod for Civilization 4 called Caveman 2 Cosmos that does just that. It starts you out in the Prehistoric Era (about 200,000 BC) and goes all the way into the Cosmic Era (where mankind become transcendent god-like entities). The mod, btw, is MASSIVE, and even though I've been playing it for years, I still have yet to complete a full game on it (the recommended Snail setting has around 12,000 turns to it).

play Universim a god game where u play as a god It's similar to this game , building and resource management , survival etc . from caveman to astronauts and it's like foundation , u can assign nuggets to do jobs etc. Other suggestions: oxygen not included , stonehearth

You can use F1-F8 hotkeys as well as numbers 1-8 to easily go through lots of things. Expanding + icons will give you food graphs (very helpful and easy food monitoring), sledge counts as well as animal counts later. Don’t assign villagers to cutdown trees while sledges are being built, its torture. I hope the combat updates come in before you reach Iron Age so we can see how platforms (for walls) as well as AI units combat behaviors.

It seems to me he is more into introducing games looking for buyers, which suggests he doesn't play a game until he is offered a business deal by the makers. I could be wrong, but if you look at what he has made videos about, and when, there seems to be a huge clue to why he did the videos.

I was hoping you would say a bit more about any hotkeys you have found useful, like getting back to the village after looking about for resources, and such. Also, a bit about placement of structure strategies, and how to blast through the tech tree a bit faster. I am just getting started with the game, so I am currently looking for very basic game details since it is a bit of a nuisance at times getting something done.

I havent played for awhile but I recall that holding down the H key while using your mouse to gather will only select Hunters. No kids get selected. There is also a way to get them to run. I used to hate how they walk so slow to get to the hunt.

Cereal harvest is actualy in mid summer, not autumn.

Obviously the programming team left out a ton of details to keep the programming chores as low as possible. Maybe details will get filled in a bit later in game development.

i dunno if this game would be good to go to industrial era. cos then you have to do a huge map with a lot of expansion & wars & it becomes a very different game, imperialism etc.. better i think would be to split the same time periods into more eras... add more techs, make each era last longer.. have more building types.. more detail etc.. at most the game should culminate in the classical era..
