Too rich for me, nice design but I do think the average home user comes out better with DIY. That way when something breaks you can focus on that part and not a whole system. I've been using a wifi plug to minimize electrical waste and keep things cold. My next plan later this year is to try and set up an almost wireless inkbird like setup. Govee has a wifi pool thermometer and outdoor plugs, so I'm thinking that pair might be able to setup a rule where if the tub climbs in temp it kicks on for a bit to drop it back down rather than 24/7 running.

This chiller is about a year late, nice that its made in USA, but 4 month shipping delay, really. Also noticed there is no strainer before the filter, that def will require cleaning / replacing the filter often. $2k Ice barrell, $3.5k chiller when it comes off of launch price, shipping may or may not be included. $5,500, not sure the combo is worth it. I can buy a Desert Plunge or ModTub for way less and be assured of great customer service and realistic shipping times.
@ChrisNaghibiАй бұрын
There is a strainer that comes with it and bolts in to the bottom of the barrel. Not disagreeing with anything you said, just clarifying.
@VincePatrick11Ай бұрын
I recently purchased the Ice Barrel 500. Been researching chillers and as much as i love the ice barrel chiller, waiting 4 months for my health isn't worth it. At this point, there are plenty of chillers that have made it to market in the past year that aren't "made to order" I opted for the arctic warrior chiller @ 1 HP. It will cool/heat faster, has all the same wifi controls and was 600$ less expensive. It looks to be just as rugged and although heavier, it won't be moving around once installed (its on wheels just in case though).

I pre-ordered this chiller in January as soon as they unveiled the product. I was told I was in the "1st wave" of shipments. I've lost count of how many delays there have been, with the occasional email from Ice Barrel. They did send a complimentary bottle of soap and $100 credit towards a future purchase, but it just blows my mind that they still offer preorders on their site when they clearly can't deliver the product in a timely manner. It's been over 10 months since I placed my order. Has ANYONE out there actually received their Ice Barrel chiller besides their ambassadors?? Stinks that I haven't been using my barrel for almost a year now because I'm waiting for this chiller I already paid for almost a year ago..

Dave, Great review brother. Love hearing your opinions on the Ice Barrell products. I recently received my chiller and love it. Below is the review I sent to Ice Barrell. Just wanted to share it with you and your followers. It’s a tad long. The chiller has been exceeding my expectations in terms of both performance and ease of use. It maintains the desired temperature effortlessly, providing consistent cooling even during extended use. The application’s schedule mode is a standout feature, allowing me to set precise cooling schedules, which adds a great deal of convenience and efficiency to its operation. The only minor challenge I’ve encountered relates to the Ice Barrel 400, which lacks sufficient insulation. This does result in some chill loss, which could affect performance over time. To mitigate this, I would recommend purchasing an insulation blanket, similar to the ones sold by Penguin Chillers. This would significantly improve efficiency and reduce any unnecessary strain on the chiller. I’m planning to invest in one of these blankets next summer to further optimize performance. Overall, the chiller itself is performing exceptionally well, and I’m very satisfied with both its cooling capabilities and the app’s user-friendly functionality. The insulation upgrade will be a worthwhile investment to enhance long-term efficiency. Thanks, Mel

Love this and 100% agree! I added that 400 wrap to mine and it made a huge difference. Wish Ice Barrel would make their own so it doesnt have the big goofy Penguin logo on it. lol but thats just me.
@melvinpalma9495Ай бұрын
@@DavidMausJr your review on the penguin wrap convinced me to get one (next year). However, I do agree that an Ice Barrell one would definitely keep everything cleaner without the penguin logo. Keep doing these reviews brother. I’ll keep watching. Thanks
@marthasrabbsАй бұрын
Ice Barrel will likely never add insulation to the ice barrel 400. the reason being is that if you add the insulation, usually 1 inch thick, it would take 2 inches off the interior, making the experience far less in terms of space to move in. If they add the insulation to the outside of the barrel, Then the barrel will be too thick to bring through most doorways and therefore would not be as marketable. Best thing to do, is to make your own insulation sleeve. I did it for my ice barrel 400, and it retains the low temperature very well And it keeps the barrel from sweating. I bought my insulation supplies and everything I needed at Home Depot for my ice barrel 400 for under $40.

Does it have a pre-filter? No ozone? Can ozone be added without detriment to the chiller internals? What kind of filter/micron level does it require? Have you notcied condensation on the tubing? These are all questions I still have...

I have the exact same questions. Any thoughts?
@carloscavazos9440Ай бұрын
Good questions.
@icebarrelАй бұрын
Hey there, thanks for the questions! Our Chiller features an internal pre-filter and a 50-micron filter to keep water clear by capturing debris. Both require regular cleaning, and the 50-micron filter will eventually need replacing to maintain efficiency. There's no need for ozone or chlorine, as our Stabilize formula (sold separately) keeps the water safe and clean. While internal components are insulated to minimize condensation, external brass fittings may show condensation in humid climates, which doesn't impact performance.

Wouldn’t the chiller turning on and off be less efficient since the compressor turning on draws the most electricity?

Hey there! Thanks to our efficient design, there is no significant spike in energy draw when the system cycles on and off. When the Chiller is actively cooling, it only uses 6 amps, compared to other chillers that typically draw 15-20 amps. In SmartSense mode, it uses just 1 amp, further reducing energy usage.
