I get both sides. Putting somebody on a screen like that also exposes them in a certain way to the point that their life can never be the same again. Remember that Cosby Show dude who tried to get a job at Trader Joe's? What some people do now is offer some percentages on the backend instead of upfront money. Some actors take nothing upfront and then negotiate a percentage on the backend. It's a clever compromise that doesn't strain the budget while keeping everybody motivated to put out their best work. After all, the more the movie sells, the better everybody is paid. And people can't complain about the pay.

Without seeing the script that Katt had access to, I am thinking the scene was going to be played out like the one in PC - you don't actually see it, but there is enough going on, you know excatly what is taking place. Katt, being the individual he was/is, thought that that would be going too far and convinced "them" to go in another direction, which ended up being "Damon" giving chase vs. a scene that would allow our minds (imagination) to wander to that place. I watched the entire interview. The actual interview , where he talks about his life and upbringing is the absolute best part. I wish they dove more into that. Katt Williams is an autodidact genius but we've only seen him in the context of comedy. The payment part for the actors should always be about the royalties, make sure when you sign contracts that you get royalties on the backend, so if the film pays you upfront for the work you do that part can be small, but if you are due a percent of what the film makes you can earn millions over the years if the film does well.

You think the agents, and actors didn’t know about royalties back then? It’s actually extremely hard to negotiate for a royalty but it’s exactly as you said. Why would the producer of the film willing give you way more money when they can just give you $5000? You won’t do the movie unless you get royalty? Ok…bye! Unless they’re a star, or they have a strong relationship, or it’s a standard thing (like commercials, not movies). If you have the pull to negotiate a royalty, you’re probably not browsing random KZbin comments.

Hold on. Ok, so first, there wasn't a rape scene in the movie but there was definitely an attempted rape. So, the scene in question is still in the movie, I think. I'm guessing what Katt is remembering and likely getting sideways is the writing of the scene probably had Money Mike taking an L (by implication, I don't think Katt said a rape was going to be explicitly shown) before getting the upper-hand which is how the scene almost played out. I would want to see a couple of direct questions put to both but I think both are telling the truth as they see it. Second, sounds like they had the character of Money Mike, but Katt got the role and made it his own with his own lines and with some notes. So I judge that everyone telling the truth except some embellishment from Rickey and maybe some from Katt.

I love cube very much but implying that the actors were nobody's or at least significantly less famous when they were hired and therefore didn't deserve much pay and becoming more famous for being in the movie somehow offsets the bad pay is total bull. Another thing saying that all the money goes on the screen and that he has to pay a lot of people is another bad set of excuses and everyone knows it's expensive to make a movie and it doesn't excuse you from paying terribly.
