After reading the book (or even just doing enough research on it's back story to be honest) I guarantee you will not believe this claim. Thomas Althouse also claims his script "The Immortals" was the true inspiration for The Matrix. Since the machines use humans as a source of energy, I suppose every human counts so instead of killing The One, I would probably just make it a lot harder for humans to break out of the matrix. Keep Neo and Trinity plugged in and tucked away somewhere within machine city instead of some random place where the rebels like Morpheus (or Bugs) can free him. Tighter security would ensure there are no rebels in the first place and all of humanity would continue their blissful existence in the matrix. Kind of like….the world we live in right now 🤦‍♂️ How would you have done it?
