Facts over feelings!!! Fact #1: Cube doesn't own 100% of the Big3. He has a yt partner. So, even if Cube wanted to make every business move for the Big3 be "about the culture," he wouldn't be able to. Also, the Big3 has advertising and sponsorships by yt owned corporations, and I'm sure Cube wants to not only keep those sponsors but also grow and expand the amount of sponsors for the Big3. Fact #2: The WNBA season and the Big3 season happen at the same time. Every WNBA player is under contract to play and only play for the WNBA team they are under contract with during and for the duration of the season. After the WNBA season is over, and during the WNBA off-season, players are free to go overseas (or anywhere) and play for whoever they want. This is why Cube can not offer any WNBA player a contract. Fact #3: Cube, and also sports agents, can not offer any college player anything unless that college player has declared to go pro (like Caitlin has). That would be an NCAA violation because college players are considered "amateur student athletes." Juju (can not declare) and Angel Reese have yet to declare going pro. Now that the Facts have been listed, let's get into opinions. Caitlin is the hottest and most talked about female basketball player right now, pro or college. There's no one close to her rn. She can bring notoriety and a lot of fans to any pro league and/or team. It would be a great business move if Cube can pull this off. This deal would also be motivation for future women players to work hard so they can possibly get these types of opportunities. Lastly, the average WNBA rookie contract is approx 80k per year. Hopefully, this newfound competition for the WNBA can help the players in the WNBA get more money in the future. Competition breeds innovation.
