@bigduninero. 🤨Why NY peeps always brags what do you mean story telling starts from NY and who told you biggie was humble? Biggie humbled distanced himself from the guy who housed him took him to shows when he was in prison for a crime he really did not do? He was humble when he chose to diss a dead man? He was humble when he couldn’t talk it out with him while alive? He’s humble when he went to radio calling for snoops and co to be gunned and chased out of ny? All this was how big was so humbled🤫
@gt024
@gt024 11 ай бұрын
@big_dinero7942 I said Ice Cube was humble. Like most Biggie worshipers, you wanna give him that title too. 🤣 Best everything! As for storytelling, the conversation starts with Ice Cube because he's arguably the best to ever do it. FYI.. I can tell you don't really know Cube's catalog like that. I've heard every Biggie song ever made at least a hundred times. I'm probably more qualified than you to speak on this. You haven't made a compelling argument using examples. I'll give you "One More Chance." Then I'm going in on you with "No Vaseline." Lol
@gt024
@gt024 11 ай бұрын
@big_dinero7942 "Clearly" humor is not your strong suit. One more chance and no Vaseline was aimed at you as a play on words, goofball. I'm over qualified to give you this work. Notorious Big; while he was an excellent word Smith, one of the best to ever do it, he never used that to expand beyond telling stories about himself as a King Pin drug dealer, NY Gangster, being a playboy, being rich, or being broke early in life. Ice Cube; by the time Biggie was on the air with his debut album, Cube already had 5 legendary albums that gave him the crown for the art of storytelling. He's made songs about the hood, hood cats, drug dealers, convicts, ex-cons, gangsters, gang banging, being broke, being rich, economics between the haves and have nots, racism, police brutality, sellouts and uncle toms, strip clubs, interracial dating, troubled youth, traveling, black empowerment, Jim crow, slavery and the kkk, being a boss, giving away our culture, standing on principles, etc. I could keep going but I don't need to. Biggie never touched 95% of that subject matter. Thus, he could never be a better storyteller. He was a good storyteller and that should be enough for you as a fan.

Ice Cube is one of the best songwriters in history regardless of genre. His ability to convey through vivid imagery and command tone with specific words or deliveries was unparalleled. Death Certificate to date is one of the few 10/10 albums to come out of hip-hop. Listen to his catalog from ‘90-‘93 as well as his writing contributions to many other MC’s work during that period.

@big_dinero7942ce Cube is top tier and one of the all time great’s. To me Nas is my favorite story teller and is in my top five of all time. KRS ONE is also probably in my top five but bro it’s even hard just to make a top five. Certain MC’s have already surpassed Biggie in my opinion. He didn’t have that much solo material and both Ice Cube and BIG ghostwrote for group’s. That alone is extremely hard. To state that Ice Cube is basic or does not belong on someone’s top list is crazy. He does deserve his flowers and I personally would not be mad if someone has him on their top five but again it’s all about preference. To me in a way it depends on the era that we are talking about. Because every era has their top five in a way. I think everyone need’s to respect if it’s Biggie, Cube, Nas, KRS ONE, etc. Everyone has a certain influence and do keep in mind that BIG only really had a couple of album’s. In my opinion Jay Z and Jadakiss already surpassed Biggie but then again that is just my opinion. Anyways Peace and Love and long live hip hop.

I have been listening to hip-hop since tracks were 11 minutes long. I have owned all of both Cube’s and Biggie’s joints and listened to them probably hundreds of times each. This debate is not one that I have ever heard before, but it forced me to go back into my mental crates of these two legends. First, let’s be real, there is a lot of emotional attachment to Biggie - gone way too soon. Because of that attachment, I think it is difficult for some people to actually listen to the heart of the debate. There is a difference between storytelling and rapping or flow. I think even Cube would agree that Biggie’s flow was nearly untouchable. Storytelling is another facet of hip-hop, that is used far less these days. When I think about storytelling telling, I think about a writers’ ability to visually put your mind into the scene of what they’re communicating and to make the listener feel as if they are experiencing what is being said. Your flow and ability to tell stories are two different skill sets. When I look at this debate this way, I agree, Ice Cube was better at storytelling than Biggie. I think “Good Day” and “Jackin’ for Beats” highlight Cubes ability take a plot and move it along within a song. Other examples of storytelling - Special Ed (The Mission), Rakim (Mahogany), Tupac (Dear Mama) and more recently Jay-Z (99 Problems), Kendrick (Savior), J Cole (Wet Dreams).

IDK bro story to tell, gimme the loot, niggas bleed, get money. BIG was a very visual emcee in general and flow is critical in rap so I’m giving the 👑 to BIG he’s better overall at rapping and that absolutely counts. Cube sounds like he’s reading from a notebook a lot of the time and his rhymes are also generally very basic although thought provoking. BIG used more poetical elements which made the visual interpretations more interesting and vivid he REALLY WAS the rap Alfred Hitchcock. Bro said “sweat trickling down ya cheek / ya heartbeat sound like Sasquatch feet, THUNDERING shaking the concrete. Then the shit stops when I foil the plot neighbors called the cops said they heard mad shots.” . Ten Crack Commandments You literally see Jake whipping rock and the girl snorting it all up sucking off and cooking steak and if ya don’t ya blind and I grew up in NYC during crack BIGGIE captured the time period precisely in a vile of musical crack. Cube and Friday is dope but without the movies he wouldn’t be as big and there wouldn’t be a comparison. We haven’t heard this comparison because there really shouldn’t be it’s apples and oranges Drink Champs is stupid overall especially when they try and compare art like just let it all be great. If anything cube and NWA is foundational to BIG it’s symbiotic like we don’t need to compare them really. Only in Black Music do they try and tear one artists shit down so another’s can be held higher it’s wack. Biggie is one of the top 5 lyricists of all time DOA simply off the compression factor. Even if you want to compare Cubes storytelling BIG did all that in 3 years and 2 albums the only other storytelling MC with a track record like that is Slick Rick. You can’t really compare cube to either one the trajectory of they careers are completely different. Rick went to jail at his peak and Big Passed. Cube got more fame from Friday than ANY prior album he dropped although they were considered classics it’s the whole NWA and no Vaseline plus linking up with Public Enemy’s production team that got him some clout but let’s be 100% nobody was EVER comparing Cube to REAL NYC lyrical dudes like Kane, G Rap or even Grand Puba at the time. BIG got all those comparisons and still does and it’s for a reason. Cube is dope and creative but he’s not better than BIG by a long shot BIGs stories are intricate cubes play out like see Jane run. Fuck DJ EFN for even Making the comparison like seriously who TF put him in position to even have a public opinion like that? NORE??? drunk moron who barely remembers elements of the questions he’s asking. Shit like that is killing hip hop. BIG came and went like a supernova cuz that’s what he was they really need to stop shitting on his name and legacy with these lame and inaccurate comparisons.

@@NavAK_86 That's a foolish statement on your part. Yes, Biggie was more "Lyrical Miracle" but that doesn't make him a better storyteller. In order to be a great storyteller, you have to connect with the listener and get them to relate to what's being said. That's why the best storytellers use simplicity and don't over complicate the message. Also, Cube did mult-syllable rhymes as well. Hip-hop has evolved to value that more. It's a nice technique that pleases the ear, but it will never and should never be more valuable than the message or story being told.

Scarface rhymes are vivid Stories that the listener plays out in their minds. No video has to be made for the Song you can picture everything in your own mind.. Ice cubes death certificate, album, “The album from front to back” Fire.!! The album is relevant to this day. My example without ever having a video is the song “Us” by ice cube..

I think the more diplomatic way to say it is that Big was a more technically advanced storyteller than Cube. I think Cube's biggest storytelling song is "Today was a good day" but the rhymes in that song are very simple compared to Big's "Gimme the loot", "I got a story to tell" or "What's beef". Doesn't mean either of those songs are necessarily better than "Today was a good day", but certainly different.
