Back when I was skating ice dance at the gold level ice dance was all about the compulsory dances. I wish they would bring them back. This year the short program had no compulsory dance just two difficult turns in hold. That's not what ice dance is about as far as I'm concerned. It's ballroom dance on ice.

Don't let these skaters' costumes fool you. Figure skating is actually a sport. You do have to be an athlete to do some of those fancy moves. And most importantly, you have to know how to ice skate.

I am a roller judge and tight footwork means a lot on rollers. The Russian and French teams - not the vintage French team - had great footwork. Meryl had a few wide steps and I was surprised the team was scored so high. Virtue and Moir were the best all around team. I'd place them 1. Russians 2, young French team 3, , Davis and White 4. Belden and Agosto 5.

If compulsories had that magic for you why then you didn't bother to find out a bit more about them? Like that it was actually the purpose of compulsories to compare ice dancers while skating exactly the same pattern to exactly the same music? That's why the music varied from season to season, from competition to competition, but not from skater to skater. Tango Romantica was the chosen compulsory (chosen by ISU) for 2010 Olympics. And at the same year's Worlds it was the Golden Waltz.

They were given a huge score in the compulsories since everyone knew their OD and FD were weak after Europeans and no way were the Europeans giong to allow a NA sweep, and the only way to prevent it was to have DomShabs so far ahead of Belbin & Agosto in the CD they couldnt catch them for the bronze. That meant of course DomShabs winning the CD and B&A 4th or lower in it. Davis & White were actualy overscored though. Should have been no higher than 4th behind Belbin & Agosto in this phase.

I’ve watched this so many times. D/S won this purely on reputation (and maybe because the judges were already favoring V/M and D/W in competition, so these are some pity points for the world champs lol). They looked loose and sloppy compared to most of the younger teams. Old fashioned, very pre-2006.

i believe them winning was the politics of the sport instead of the talent being aloud to shine...they were two of the worst ice dancers i have ever seen and i am happy to see that style of dance dying out cuz it is exactly what stopped me from watching during the 90s and early 2000s - the sport was a joke, it was like watching a bad circus. Thank God for Marina Z and Igor S for taking it to a new , beautiful, glorious level that i am thrilled to sit and watch 4+ straight hours of it :)

Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin are the strongest figure skaters and the best dancers on ice. Their dances are the most difficult, the most beautiful and simply hypnotic. Gorgeous costumes and they themselves are very beautiful, perfect looking with each other, people. Unlike other scary, short-legged, crooked-legged and fat skaters riding in competitions. I don't understand why they were given bronze. They are geniuses of ice. Let this mess will remain on the conscience of those who made it. Aboriginal dance and free dance are masterpieces of masterpieces. And no one except them, would not perform these masterpieces is not something that at the same level as Maxim and Oksana, and even if it seems.
