Dad fished a lot when we were kids. He'd take us fishing--then HE'D go fishing either alone or with one buddy. Now I remember why, LOL. Fishing with kids takes a whole 'nother level of patience...but so much fun and makes great memories! Love you guys! Have a great, happy New Year!

Where was this when I was a kid? In the 1960s-70s I never saw an augur. We used axes, but I never saw anybody use a rock to open the hole. Great idea!
@philipkeeler99972 жыл бұрын
Sure. If the fish you are trying to catch haven't been scared all the way to the Gaspe. Do that to a pond or small lake and the thunder will spook everything for up to 4-6 hours. Leaves time for 'bowling with children.' Snow angels and the like. Nice family. All the best for your channel.
@bjs3012 жыл бұрын
@@philipkeeler9997 The axe scares away the fish. Or the augur. Or whatever you use. Fish have very little short term memory, and they always come back pretty quickly. If you get no bites in four hours, you probably should have moved to a new spot three hours ago.

I'm gunna go ahead and say it's easier to chop the rest of the way through than it is to find and haul a giant ass rock out there.
@bjs3012 жыл бұрын
@@imbezol You think that was a "giant ass rock?" When you go ice fishing, don't you usually use a sled - or a snowmobile - to get your stuff out on the ice? A big rock doesn't way much sitting on a sled.

Ice Fishing is a big thing here in Minnesota, but for the life of me I've never understood the appeal of freezing your bum off for a fish that will still be there in the spring when the weather is more enjoyable.

Lol awesome! Time spent with the family is sacred…I took my boy out yesterday to do some ice fishing…it was nicer out yesterday…the last 10 days have been deep freeze temps…then again today it’s hit the deep freeze temps for another 10 days. I took advantage of the weather as you guys did. And the same result…perch after perch after perch. Lol nothing touched the tip up all day. But the good news is I put up my pop up tent and fished in + 20° temps. Lol so much better than out in the wind. Lol Just a bit of time to set it up and take it down after. Well worth the extra time invested 👍🏻

Just wanted to update this review. Year 4, with a bit of sharpening I'm still thrilled with this Auger! This is an excellent Auger. kzbin.infoUgkxe0I-fnTUByahTCyStrIBXsesSkQJKn8n It splits to 1/2 size for storage in the warm months and easily assembles for winter use. I can cut holes in less than a minute by and really don't feel the need to ever adapt this to use with a drill. It cuts easily with the included blades (which can be sharpened or replaced as needed) and has held up extremely well through last season, and now for the first cuts of this season. I do recommend this to anyone who asks, and personally prefer this over powered augers. These are quiet, still quite fast, lighter, and don't risk spilling chemicals into our waterways. I plan to do a lot of fishing this year through the ice, thanks to this trusty Auger. The 8" diameter is great for fishing pike through the ice as well.

An ice fishing tip, I saw you had a steel leader on before your jigging rap. This is common practice for open water when fish are more aggressive but when the bite slows down you dont use them. Most people use braided line to a 2-way swivel then like 8 pound flurocarbon to their lure. You dont have to use braid though. I use 6 pound mono without the leader and it works great. If youre going for pike a jigging spoon works too like a sweedish pimple (name of the lure) with a minnow head or pretty much any bait (wax worms, spikes, pieces of other fish, etc) good luck!

We had -36°C and a windchill in the -40’s to -50’s over the Christmas holiday in Alberta. 80°F is normal summer temperatures for us. Although last summer during that big heat wave it got up to 36°C here which is 97°F, and it got up to 49.5°C in the shade in BC which is 121°F. We are truly a land of extremes.
