Crushing it with the BHesque snow crunch folly... Lol!

The ice parallel to cave formations is pretty cool, probably could have used your black jacket down low to add some modeling to the shapes. I'm thinking it would probably print well on something super high contrast...

Great video. I like the abstract images you shot. Good work. P.S. Ditch the Coal hat=black lung for all miners.
@ChrisDarnell2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Patrick! I think in this case "Coal" is just a suboptimal name of a clothing brand based out of Seattle, but thanks for bringing that to my attention. I can certainly find a more fashionable brain warmer..

I think the close up ice picture looked neat. I’m a big fan of the extremely detailed texture pictures that you’ve done-my favorite was one was of the dead trees you shot in the the desert. Beautiful. With all that being said, my favorite of this particular video was the one at the very end taken from the side of the road. I lived in Utah a long time ago and I forget just how breathtaking those big sandstone structures are with a dusting of snow and some green plants. Really, really nice work.

Thank you! So often I find myself driving past something and it occurs to me that I should stop and photograph it real quick and on that occasion it was just too good to pass up. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching!

Hi Chris. There’s a good app called Reciprocity Timer which will give you all the info you need for almost any film. Hopefully this might help.
@ChrisDarnell2 жыл бұрын
Yep, it’s been a while since I’ve used it but I know it well. Hadn’t noticed that E100 had been added to it’s list of film stocks, I thought for sure it wasn’t there last time I looked although that was quite a while ago. Thanks for pointing that out!

What a cool photo adventure. Thanks for sharing how it went. It was nice seeing all that ice. It's dang hot out here in Cali.

Thanks Frank! It's been pretty warm here in Utah as well

Cool man 🥶 Great video. Liked the balls of ice. Would be even better in a glass with some scotch whisky on them. Love the colourful cliffs at the end. Don't think your frozen accordion playing was up to much, couldn't hear a tune 🤣

Haha, thanks Andrew, I’ll have to work on my accordion skills 😆

Well since you got the last shot, i guess the bellows survived the thaw out. That ice cave was awesome to see with the light on the sculptures. It is one of those that looks good but tough to make work. The bubbles shot was nice as an abstract but I agree it is tough to understand what it is. In realty though, that is what makes abstracts interesting in my opinion. The final shot was really nice. I thought it turned out really nice. It has been great to see this series in July when the heat and humidity are so stifling here. Enjoyed it Chris!
@ChrisDarnell2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Philip! Fortunately the bellows on that camera is synthetic and pretty water resistant, so no harm done there. I couldn't fold them up to get the camera in the bag so I had to remove the bellows and carry it to the truck, haha. What a fiasco..

The lighting in the cave was not a good match for E6 film. You managed well under the circumstances. Kodak states that Ektachrome needs no reciprocity adjustment up to 10 seconds. Provia can go at least two minutes without reciprocity issues. Great videos. Keep up the good work.
@ChrisDarnell2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tim! Not sure why I couldn't find that part on reciprocity before, but sure enough it's right there in the data sheet. I must be going blind.. Thanks for pointing that out!

I like the abstract ice photo the best. Agree with you about the first one. I'm not sure what it is that feels unusual, but the subject is cool. The tough part about shooting film I imagine is the limited amount of variations you can try! Looks like a great trip, well done
@ChrisDarnell2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Brian. I suppose that's very true, on film you're pretty much limited by how much time and money you want to spend, haha.

I really liked the abstract ice image. Did something similar in a studio setup many years ago. Ice is a truly challenging subject to do it justice. But, man, you're really abusing your camera there, hopefully nothing got permanently damaged.
@ChrisDarnell2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Alfred! All turned out just fine, the bellows is synthetic and pretty water resistant so after thawing in the truck for a few minutes it was ok. It was definitely a challenge breaking it down with it iced over like that though, haha!

Cool subjects, I like the Ice bubbles but for some reason I think it looks upside down. I know it's not but something about it suits my eye when I look at it upside down (no I'm not drinking LOL)
@ChrisDarnell2 жыл бұрын
Haha! Thanks Andrew, to be honest I had to look at the notches to make sure I didn't have it upside down when I scanned it so I can totally see that!

Props to all you guys that shoot year round, I hibernate! I'm spending this winter finishing up the darkroom and saving for new 4x5. I love the abstract shot, photography became much more fun when I started shooting for myself. My OCD hit hard when I saw those frozen bellows LOL. Just found you recently, trying to catch up on your videos.

Thanks for watching Mike! Those winter days are certainly not without their challenges, haha. It was a bit annoying to have to carry the bellows like that all the way back to the truck but it thawed out pretty quickly fortunately 😆

I like the abstract ice. At first I was drawn towards the cooler image on the right but the longer I looked at them I preferred the image on the left. Good work either way!
