I feel like a standard ice cube tray would take up less space than one of those and give you better ice cubes. Have you ever tried the re-freezable ice cubes? They're a bpa free plastic cube with water inside them. Freeze. Use. Re-freeze. Much less mess/effort and take up minimal freezer space.

There's a "new and improved" Ice Genie. I don't know if it's better, but it's out there.

I’m in Massachusetts, temps are going to be in 20’s and 30’s, going to be snowy and icy. I’ve been working the frontlines at a grocery store in Produce through this entire pandemic since last year, i took a vacation in November and also tested negative.

That's a tiny amount of ice! I pretty much use that amount of ice in one serving of my ice tea. This device could never work for me.

Left first batch out too long it melted. Pouring it back in the second time left a puddle of water surrounding the first batch... that's what happens when you freeze standjng water with stuff in it... yes, even ice cubes. The standing liquid water froze around the ice cubes. As can be seen with the second batch, there was less... because it wasn't left out as long. It likely works when the first 3 batches are drained of any water prior putting them back in the center holding compartment. Still... given you took the time [based on 8 hour freeze time per 40 cubes = 24 hours + 8 freezing the last 40 remaining kept on the ice making sides] maxing out the available storage of 160 cubes [40×3=120 {in center} + 40 outside = 160 cubes] then filled the water every time more than 40 cubes were used - it could work. That 8 hours wait time between each 40 cubes used is where-in this products efficiency level makes it more work than worth time required being invested in it... with it being a mere $1 investment. Especially given you use more than the total sum of 40 cubes more than twice a day. Doing so, you would never be capable keeping yp with producing enough ice. That said, this is something i would classify more as a novelty or marketed for use by kids... as the younger they are, the less (in theory at least) ice they would use. In the end, it would best be used as a teaching tool in demonstrating work ethic(s), dedication, along with the likes - more than a logically daily-use product. This being where I find the genius in its creation.

My thought is that those little ice cubes would melt quick and water down your drink I prefer to have the ice trays with the bigger ice cubes

Not much ice for the space used, I'll just stick with tupperware ice trays. They have a lid so they don't spill easily.
