Interesting to see Olympic hockey on the 1932 rink. Such a small arena with just seats on the bench side of the rink and the the end on the left. The arena was constructed for the 32 games in Lake Placid.

I was 14 years old and on a goaltender on a travel ice hockey team in New Jersey. I intently-followed the Olympic action (not just what was telecast in the USA) and I remember one of the kids on my team telling me that his father took a beer bottle and threw it against the wall when Finland scored that third goal against Canada around the 59:00 mark of this amazing video compilation. There is so much more to this tournament than the "Miracle on Ice." Many of the newer documentaries that have been made over the years have helped bridge the gap, but the NUTS AND BOLTS of how the tournament really worked and the future historical ramifications this had on hockey overall are still not grasped as fully as they should.

This is a great compilation. Thx for posting. Of course I recall the excitement of the USA gold, but seeing all these other games is fascinating. Seems to me that Soviets really were ripe for upset. Canada gave them great game with young kids. Soviets seemed almost bored at times. Never even got excited for their goals. Still need some emotion in a tournament like this no matter how good you are.

I couldn't agree more. What many people fail to understand, even after we're in the midst of celebrating the 40th anniversary of these Olympics is how many plausible "what if" scenarios were in existence and the uncertainty they could've led to.

That Romanian team was pretty good since Ice Hockey was not a popular Sport in Romania. The Romanians play Ice Hockey in a very entertaining style, and the Defense for Romania are good.

The USSR- Sweden game should've been for bronze.

Does anyone have access to all of the tiebreakers that were used by the IIHF for the 1980 Olympics for both group play and the Medal Round?
@jeffmerklin20225 жыл бұрын
First tiebreaker had to be head to head. Both Canada and Finland were 3-2 in group play but Finland made medal round due to win over Canada. Next must have been goal differential. Sweden and USA were both 4-0-1 in group play, and tied each other, but Sweden was +19 in goal differential and USA was +15, so Sweden got 1 seed from that group and thus played 2 seed Finland first in medal round. And 1 seed USSR played 2 seed USA in other initial medal round games. At least, that's my guess.

пиздец, третьяк дырка на этой олимпиаде, оказывается пропускал он с синей линии не тока со штатами в финале, а с канадой мало того, еще почти с нулевого угла умудрился получить...

Look and Study the Soviet's Goal # 2 against the USA Team. See the Soviet Union Player PASS the Puck BACK TO HIMSELF off the USA Players SKATE BLADE while the Soviet's Teammate DIRECTLY on the OTHER SIDE Skates by the USA Player to DISTRACT His ATTENTION towards Him as the DECOY MAN. That was one of the CREATIVE WAYS the Soviet Union would COMPENSATE FOR COVERAGE and Score Goals as I have seen Soviet's use that TACTIC on several occassions!
