2014 team Canada was one of the greatest teams ever put together, the defensive dominance was remarkable, usually Canadian teams are known for high scoring but they were low scoring and just smothering defensive hockey, it was masterclass.

Never seen a Canadian national team let their determination to win be so tempered by disciplin and accuracy. They took care of any possibility that lucky bounces would allow an opponent to gain momentum in this short tournament on big ice. Undeniable effort, nothing could have stopped them this time. Hat Off!

This Canadian team was probably the most powerful team to ever take to the ice, any time, any place. They'd have beaten the Leaf dynasty of the 60's, the Hab flying circuses of the 70's, the Isle and Oiler teams of the 80's. It's not even close, these guys could have made it 10-0 had they wanted. The Swedes were lucky to get the puck into the Canadian zone.

Play List Google searching names. Nice. Clearly you don't know anything about hockey. Cherry picking American names doesn't discount the plethora of Canadian names. You randomly associate many players as top 5 prospects, which they are not. Eichel and Hanifan, along with along with Matthews are top 5 prospects. The first 2 are come after Connor McDavid, but Hanifin might fall out of the top 5. He had a bad World Juniors, and he is 2nd or 3rd best among freshman defencemen, behind Jordan Gross and at the same level as, or behind Brandon Montour. Marner and Crouse can likely surpass him as #3 and/or #4, with Strome and Barzal right there for #5 or #6 (these 2 not ahead of Hanifin though. Matthews is the only surefire top pick in 2016. However, it is way too early to even consider anyone else. If you want to throw out names, Clague, Chychrun, Fabbro, Steel, Green, Howden and Benson can all slide into the top 5 for Canada, but again it is way too early to tell; 1 and a half years away.

Google searching? There's something called prospect forums, "and mock drafts".... 3/4 of the scouts voted Hanifan as the number three best prospect in the draft..Most of these kids have broken records, and are receiving Crosby-like attention. Wise for example even though he's only 14 he has broken the QC Int PW AA Elite scoring record, and is the most hyped player in the 2000s... Dhooghe? he has already committed to Ohio State Univ, and is being called the next patrick kane, putting up patrick kane type numbers at a similar age...Max Jones was the leading scorer at the u17 champions... Wahlstorm is the youngest player to make NCAA hockey commitment (scholarship)..www.draftsite.com/nhl/mock-draft/2016/ ..... hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/index.php .... www.eliteprospects.com/draftcenter.php?year=2017 .... try reading for once

Play List Please continue using the unqualified opinions of those on forums and conducting mock drafts before there is even a draft order. I said Hanifin _might_ fall out of the top 5, not that he wasn't the 3rd best player. He has hurt his stock lately, which _could_ push him out of the top 5. Too significant of drop? Remember Seth Jones dropping 3? Hanifin however is still a top 5 (#3-5) prospect, with Crouse and Marner, who have clearly established themselves in the top 5. Also, please link _the scouts._ Oh really? Crosby like attention? I hear people in the streets clamouring about Wise, Jones, Kirwan, Day, Chychrun (who's Canadian), Wahlstrom, Anderson, Dhooghe, Gildon and Keller. Oh yeah, no one is. Crosby like attention is when Wayne Gretzky says you are the best player he's seen since Mario Lemieux. Crosby like attention is when you are heiled as "The Next One." The men who were: Lindros, Crosby, Kessel, Tavares, McDavid and Eichel. None of the above, Wise to Keller, receive any sort of attention whatsoever. That is you making a comment to hype those players in an attempt to convince me to thinking you are right. Jake Wise generated absolutely no attention in the time period of 2000 to 2009. I put 100% faith in that statement. You're high off something. You sound like a machine spitting out the internet. Anyways, Barzal broke the point scoring record at 12 or 13 years of age. It is a league that has yet to provide any NHL talent in its history. Just because he puts up Patrick Kane numbers doesn't automatically mean he's Patrick Kane. In fact, he isn't even close to Crosby or Kane. Dhooghe may strike as a Grimaldi, but as a mid to late round pick, 5-6 year development project, and then either a top 6 star, or a bust, but the top 6 remark is being generous. His height is an issue as well. Looking at the 30 shortest players in the league, there is a 6/30 chance he makes it as a regular, and 1/30 chance he truly plays at a level of Crosby, or Kane. This is with adjusted growth between the next 3 and 5 years. If you want a Patrick Kane, look for Jeremy Bracco; late-1st, early 2nd round pick. We're still a year and a half away from the 2016 draft. Max Jones today may very well be a top 5. But that could all change in a year. There are surefire #1's, but not top 5's. Austin Matthews is the former, no one is the latter for sure. Just look at for example, the 2000 draft until 2014. 2000 had Dipietro, Heatley and Gaborik, 2006 had E.Johnson, J.Staal and Toews. Any one of them could have been drafted first overall. None of them could have been predicted 1.5 years before. 1.5 before, you could with Ovechkin and Malkin in '04, Crosby in '05, Stamkos in '08, Tavares in '09, and McDavid and Eichel in '15. No more than that, do to the sheer difficulty and constant changes. Even with surefires, you have Jones going from #2 at the start, to #1 late in the season, to #2 heading in, to #4 leaving the draft. Is Wahlstrom playing as a Swedish or American international? Looks good from numbers, even if he's 383rd in scoring, he is very young. It's premature to judge him at the moment. He needs two more years before we can begin. I'd slot him as an early, early, early prospect for 2018 when he's eligible.

@@cg891109 No, no Swedish team would have won this time, when Canada excelled in playing as we often do in Sweden all for the team a well thought out game plan that everyone sticks to, not taking any penalties. Just doing good things, attention to detail, focus on what we can do and let the statistics work it out. When Canada and all their broad hockey tradition, with their best players bye into that, we are screewed. Our hope is that this time was the first time it happened and it maybe takes a while befor it happens again.

I Agree with the 875 Likes, Ice hockey: Ice hockey is a contact team sport played on ice, usually in a rink, in which two teams of skaters use their sticks to shoot a vulcanized rubber puck into their opponent's net to score points. Ice hockey teams usually consist of four lines of three forwards, three forwards, three pairs of defencemen, and two goaltenders. Normally, each team has five players who skate up and down the ice trying to take the puck and score a goal against the opposing team. and I also heard that on Wikipedia the Free Encyclopedia that it states that Team members: 6 per side (including goaltender). ;-)

This is what superiority looks like. 3 goals allowed in the tournament. And here I thought the European teams were supposed to know how to play strategically on the big ice. Thank goodness Canada and their skill destroyed the "trap" systems that less talented teams employ when they know they can't match up. I think the only team that matched up ok against the Canucks was Finland. Much tougher than the Swedes.

Xi Zui Where do you live? Most local ice rinks have some sort of beginner and recreational league (sometimes known as a "beer" league) or drop-in times for games. If you live in a place where there is a local rink, see if there is one and join it. You can also play what's called "shinny" on outdoor public rinks, which is usually cheaper because you don't have to pay for ice time and the only equipment you need are skates, a stick, a few pucks, and gloves. Alternatively if you live in a warmer climate where there isn't a rink nearby or you want a cheaper option, you can also play road/ball hockey, which has almost identical rules but is played on a hard surface and usually is played with a ball instead of a puck. You can also play at any time you want if you live on a quiet residential street. All you need is a net (optional but highly recommended, cost roughly around $30-100), a stick (for road hockey you can make do with a $15-30 stick), and a ball (three tennis balls for $5 local sports store). Goalie equipment for road hockey will run you about $100-150 total probably if you want that too.

ok... bro... let's look at Canada's population... More than 60% are visible minorites... meaning out of the 35 million, 20 million are First generation immigrants that haven't got a clue what ice is, let alone hockey. So, out of the remaining 15 million, we have enough talented players to field three or four competitive teams in the olympics... Team Sweden, ONE only!!! lol

Mulli Gan There are more variables to bring forth a country of good hockey players, culture and tradition and economics...china haven´t had the same tradition or economics in order to bring forth a good hockey nation, regarding economics..in the future we might see them therem If they decide to balance their population to start playing hockey rather than ping pong that is:) if no such variables...Canada would have won all the time over sweden, or should I say russia. russia had it going because extreme investment in a completly different form in the 80´ ...the big red machine.

Theres only one team/country that can lose 4 of their best players and still be the best, and thats Canada. Certainly not Sweden, we lost Zetterberg, Franzen, one of the Sedins, Backstrom - to many of our key players gone. And thats way to many to make a dent in a Olympic Canadian team.. Well deserved gold medal to Canada..

and as of 2019, Sedin and the others in the World Cup of Hockey were beaten handily by teenager rookies. So sick of Swede excuses, claims of cheating, crying foul. There is no nation on earth so full of excuses and so much in denial about things. That's exactly why Sweden never wins when it counts...because they're too busy making excuses.

Let me sound like a Swede: The score could easily have been 10-0 if not for the bad refereeing and bad bounces that Canada experienced during this game. Sweden is lucky to have not been embarrassed far worse than they were.

For those who don't understand why Canada won, let me explain: There were 2 strategies that Canada was using, the cycle game and the rapid shift switching. The cycle game is based on the principle that the puck will always move faster than the players, therefore, as long as you keep the puck cycling around the opponent's goal, the defense has more ground to cover and have to constantly try to get themselves between the goalie and the puck. But cycle game requires team work, meaning players cannot be selfish, meaning there is no "I" in team. The second strategy is rapid shift switching. By changing shifts roughly every 2 minutes, you give players on the bench roughly 6 to 8 minutes to rest, thus when they go out for their next shift, they will be fresh again and can go 100% for 2 minutes again. Thus in the 3rd period, the puck was rarely in the Canadian zone. This was actually used against the Canada vs US game with similar results, near the end of second period and for most of the third period, the US players were exhausted.

ChunLiKasumi the biggest reason they won, was that Canada has the best players. Compare the lineups and you will find out not even 3 players in sweden are good enough to play with Canda.

+How To Hockey - Coach Jeremy You are correct! Babcock stated his plan to the Canadian media for rapid shift changes that consist of 30-40 seconds. A 2 minute shift on Olympic ice would be ridiculous and very draining on the individuals stamina.

***** Actually the fact is that we don't know yet if Finland's current run is any different that the Czechs brief era of glory in the late 90's and early 00's and if its more sustainable. We will find that out in about 10 or so years so calm yourself. ***** What a load of rubbish, "You've also attacked me for complimenting the USA, Russia and European goaltending." I never did such thing, once again you must have misinterpreted by comments, the fact is that that Canadian goaltenders have been brutally underrated for years now and thrown under the bus just because they are Canadians, I was simply pointing out that fact. An example is Crawford getting zero respect but Quick and Rinne being considered elite, even though Crawford has just as good and has equal if not better stats than both of them. Plus Quick playing behind just as good a team as Crawford. For example statistically speaking Canada has hands down the best depth and elite goaltending at the senior level right now, but a majority of people will refute this and argue that Sweden/Finland/US has better goaltending when there is no real evidence to support that claim. I am simply pointing out all the double standards and hypocrisy that Canadian hockey has had to deal with for many years now. You are taking it as some complex I have when the reality is that I am simply exposing the truth and double standards.
