Thanks John for saying how fast that train was moving. I wondered how fast they go. I know they go extremely fast. Today ( 2/3/23 ) it's - 7 here in Camden, N.Y.. Not too far from you in Utica. Stay warm, and please give WiTold a big hug from me. *_Thanks_*

If I lived near Schuyler st. I’d probably get fined for trespassing, while riding that last car down to the corner store. The night shot with the snow really gives the Lakshore a Polar Express look! Great shot!

My mom's from Oriskany, her backyard met up with 69. I always take 69 to go to Rome. We used to stay at Trinkaus Manor sometimes. Loved to eat there and look at decorations. Love that shot at night! Jealous of all that snow too!

@@railroadingrambler218 I love the snow too but it's been less and less each year. Even in the city, I remember many debilitating storms. We haven't got any snow down here at all. :(

@@railroadingrambler218 Seems like there's not enough snow every year. In the city it's worse. Absolutely no snow. You should see how much salt they use when there is a chance of flurries.

Cool winter shot of street running! I wonder if the flangeway ice buildup has ever gotten so bad that a derailment happened. Cheers from Menasha, Wisconsin!

You get extra stars for your project by going out in the snow. It almost sounded like a bit of slushy wheel slip on Schaller St. As it tugged a nice representation of Midwest covered hoppers. The feeling of being alone as Amtrak flew by and Bitold barely visible as the Ghost of Christmas Past. Finally got 8" of snow and a sudden drop on temp to -35 WC In MKE

This is a grande example of why, as a motorcar pilote, you always need a trunk filled with clinkers & ash...for to assist any 'stuck' choo-choos.

Looks cold back home, and I hear it is about to get really cold over this weekend. And a question, the Susquehanna consist does not need a flashing telemetry transponder on the end car, and just an ordinary orange directional flag will do? I know that the line is hardly heavily used daily, but aren't the rules the same rules for everyone?

There must be an exception as I don't think I've ever seen anything but a flag at the end of any Utica branch train.

Great trains - and loved the Oriskany monument! That's a mostly-forgotten battle which helped turn the tide of the Revolution. If St. Leger and his British forces, supplemented by some first nations' warriors, had not been turned back here by Gen. Herkimer and the local militia, the patriot win at Saratoga would have meant little. Always wondered why this third prong of the three prong attack plan of the British gets so little attention.

Glad you especially liked the Oriskany segment; I doubled back to get it, thought it merited a closer look while the snow fell.

What is the purpose of the street-running train in this town? Is there some factory inside the town, which needs to be supplied like this, or is it just a heritage from older days? Not that it does not look cool, but the European myself would rather see a proper tram/streetcar/tram-train on those rails.

The line dates back to the late 1860's. The residents sued to keep the railroad off their street but, as you see, they were unsuccessful. At one time, up to about 100 years ago, there were about six sidings off Schuyler Street. Now there's only one, to FX Matt Brewery. Here's a video showing switching there: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3XUfZWhgrRsepI
