Not many videos that explain when in stride or when skating backwards which area of the blade to grip the ice more with. This is a very useful tool. I ambself taught and rely solely on books, videos, Ice time, and watching a ton of hockey. Often what feels natural is not correct. Thanks Marcel!

When you are gliding do you use the inside edge or are you actually standing on flat (both edges at the same time) ? I’m in my 40s learning to skate, been on the ice 1 hour total so far. I keep hearing I should be on the inside edge 90% of the time at my level. I'm so glad I found your channel btw, great videos
@MarcelsHockeySchool2 жыл бұрын
When gliding always try to stay on the flats. If you’re just on your inside edge you’ll dig in more and it will slow you down. Glad you like the channel!

Hi Coach Marcel, great video! I think of my skate blades like wheels on a train, concave curving inward, Convex is the train tracks. If both were flat, like goaly skates, turning would be hard, sliding would be easy. Happy New Year, your ODR looks good!
@MarcelsHockeySchool2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom, Not quite sure what you mean on this one. My goalie skates are actually sharpened way deeper than my player skates and are also profiled… My ODR was really good….now it’s unfortunately a swimming pool🙈

Your correct there are 3 sections to the skate blade, companies like pro Sharp want to over complicate things by stating there are 2 radi, 3 radi, 4 radi. There is one radius which is called the work radius , and 2 covex's a toe and heel. Your correct the heel convex is important for turning and the toe covex is important for quick starts and stride extension to recovery . Or toe flick.
@MarcelsHockeySchool2 жыл бұрын
I have a Prosharp ellipse profile on my skates. I like their quad profile as well. But you are right that it totally overcomplicates things when it comes to coaching. Heel, Mid, Front keeps things simple when talking to the skaters!
@skatersedge31392 жыл бұрын
@@MarcelsHockeySchool We did an analysis of the quad 0 template from prosharp at a local technical college with there CMM computerized measuring machine and it was determined that they do not use 4 radi . The quad 0 bar was an single radius 11ft with a forward pitch. Don't believe the hype. There are some big differences between profiling and contouring the blade of the skate . Profiling finds the 3 balance points of the blade in relation to how the foot fits in the boot. Contouring is changing the shape of the blade with no regard to balance points. Prosharp is not a profiling system. As they don't have any regard for balance points. If you like the system that's cool just understand there is a huge difference between profiling and contouring

@@skatersedge3139 that’s some very interesting stuff. The first time I ever tried a profile was about 15 years ago. It was a Blademaster 10‘/11‘ Profile. I really liked it. Then a buddy of mine who is an equipment manager in the DEL sent me about 5 different profiles to try about 6 years ago. It was very interesting; some I could definitely feel a difference, some I couldn’t. I think, you gotta just with what you feel comfortable with. Try to blind out the marketing side and use what feels good!

Great, analytical video. Thank you. Regarding blade angle and body position. I struggle do to the one legged turn exercise where one touches the ice with the hand or even the elbow. Any pointers?
@MarcelsHockeySchool2 жыл бұрын
You're welcome! Don't worry about touching the elbow; that is crazy hard. I think the biggest thing for those drills is being able to bend at the knees/having good leg strength, and also good balance. If you can't do it on one leg yet, then try doing the turn with both feet on the ice and touching your hand down.

I just got myself a supreme m1 before always on the rental skate. I felt so much different especially the front and back of the blade are round, it’s more smoother and fast maybe because the blade are new ? The only problem I having right now is I can’t do any simple stop like snowplow (single/both leg) not sure have to use flat or inside edge to done it , can you give any tip for me pls ?
@MarcelsHockeySchool7 ай бұрын
M1s are a huge step up from a rental, and the newer blade will defintely help compared to a worn down one. Don't get you hard one your edge when you stop; you want a fairly flat edge to shave the ice. If you angle the blade too much on the inside edge, it will dig in too much. I did a video on fixing your hockey stop; maybe it can help you: kzbin.info/www/bejne/moWoeaKLbtKGgaM

Hallo Marcel ,schöne Weihnachten. Ich hätte eine Frage übers Profling.Sollte man bei Kindern zb.U13 auch schon drauf achten oder ist das erst als Profi wichtig und im Amateur-Sport zu vernachlässigen? LG Florian
@MarcelsHockeySchool2 жыл бұрын
