I blasted Body Count on my cassette boombox from the tree house in second grade. Grew up on a strawberry farm in Sweden, doesn´t get more ghetto than that.
@shawnrurodenm36405 жыл бұрын
I got thrown out of my amish community for listening to body count on a concealed Walkman. I would take the tape player out while doing errands in town and it helped pass the time riding that bumpy carriage back to the stables. I had three tape players taken from me in previous years and lost my rights with the bishops daughter. I got to a head with all of the beatings that were incurred trying to tame my rebellion and really stepped up my manhood. The other Walkman players taken from me had more likable music for plain people like reo speedwagon. The bishop took the horse whip to me an said no speeding in wagons Olton, I tried to correct him and the lashing got worse and worse until I cried or blood had spilled. My school teacher tried to correct me for listening once while I was smoking a tobacco pipe. I dropped the player into a dairy can and ran off. I got beatings for running off and for listening to Jim Croche but not for smoking a tobacco pipe. I was 13 years old and the bishop said I was old enough to decide if I could smoke. I told the bishop, a man has to be 18 buy and sell pipe tobacco . Although I did not get the whip for smoking the tobacco pipe I had "earned" more lashings for being disrespectful in correcting the bishop about the outsider laws. I didn't cry this time so I bled instead. I was not going to let this elder beat me while he whipped me, I was being strong headed and prideful. The last time I was coming back from town on a day the fair was celebrated. I had listening to my Walkman I had purchased from a yard sale. The cassette tape was very rough and buzzing music named body count. The singer was yelling instead of singing like the reo speedwagon and Jim Croche but I listened. Body count said and yelled many obscenities but I still listened. I had to walk the mile into town with the mule because my carriage privilege had been taken away for three years. The bishop passed me as I was headed back to our home. He pulled the carriage off to the side and was yelling to me. I could not hear because I was listening to the body count. He took the player away and scolded me and said I would be corrected back at home because the outside people don't understand our way and might interfere. I was upset and told the bishop no. He then asked me to turn on the tape player so he could hear my mistake but I insisted that he would not like the body count. He then asked very angry, turn it on with a very stern tone. Ok then,I turned on the body count so he could hear. I hoped a nice song would play but it did not. The bishops eyes looked back at me and he was getting so infuriated that he shook. I got really afraid at that point because the bishop never whipped me in full anger. He was still shaking after 2 minutes and he through the Walkman down and fell to the ground as well. On the ground he shook and shook until he stopped shaking. That is were I suppose his ghost had left. I was afraid because I had done this by letting the bishop listen to the body count. He lay to rest before the next sabbath. The elder pro tempt had told my family that I would have to spend 2 months in the hot shack with no food for 30 days and no water for seven, I must want to live with the necessities or live without them. I asked to have my Walkman back for I can't live without food and water. They did not give me a blessing to leave and I am now dead to my father. I had to buy a new Walkman because the old one was given to the outside police deputy for causes of the bishops life ending.

In 1989, Silverlake, CA, there was a home rented on Fountain Avenue just near the curve where it turns into Hyperion that has a small rehearsal studio that Ice-T rented one night from a band named 'The Bats'. When he arrived I remember that he had vehicles on both ends of the street protecting him while he rehearsed. Once he was there we couldn't even leave. From a security standpoint even then Ice-T was no one you wanted to fuck with. The area at the time was pretty ghetto even for East Hollywood, Rampart district. That corner has a lot of history.

Ice-T was such a great rapper and is such a great actor. He exemplifies the meaning of how far you can go by having a work ethic. I've been watching him on SVU since he walked into the precinct and everyone was ignoring him not knowing that he was a cop that had transferred over from another division. Shows racism right there. I love so much when you learn new things and I never knew in 22 years that his name on SVU was OdafinTutuola. I always thought it was just Finn Tutuola. He is a great artist and he did have rough childhood being exposed to racism at an early age because he was a light colored black as was his mom who could, according to him, "pass as a white woman" and then have to listen to white people talk about blacks. Why can't we all just get along and play in the sandbox together. We accomplished it with music so long ago. Yes I'm a hippie. People should not be judged by the color of their skin especially in this day and age.
