it's so crazy to see another buildings conversions. People don't ever think about us night guys who have to work 4 hour shifts or longer depending on the crew and the setup. There's a lot of little things that need to be done when setting up for events. there's times where you go from your hockey set back to a basketball set then to a northern concert or an empty bowl or a theatre of the clouds set. Coming out of an empty bowl to a full blown basketball set is tough work, especially when you've been doing it and doing it a whole lot. You gotta find a place to put all your steel and what not. you got all your different kind of rails and certain ones you need and ones you don't. Some buildings like the moda center have glass you put in. There's so much that goes in to these events so people. mad respect for the guys who do this shit.

Elli chacon 4 hours shifts? Doesn’t sound like a really long shift to me. Try working 12 hours a day

Javier Espinoza He means that the construction crews are pressed for time and have to complete these tasks within 4 hours overnight.

4 hour shifts? Woahhhhhh take it easy there man. Don’t want to get over worked there 😂

Oh damn people kinda misread my comment lol, I'm surprised people actually commented. Uh, one guy got it right... 4 hours is usually a time limit that we have to get work done, sometimes less. That's at least my experience when I worked at the moda center. Try moving around heavy pieces of steel and other equipment In a timely and efficient manner. That's taking into account that everything is running smoothly and no last minute bs pops up (things never go as planned). You Wana flex 12 hour shifts, I've done those. I just saw a video of work that I once did and decided to leave a comment about my experiences. You don't think its all that? Go try it, I bet most people would quit after just building a stage..

I love this video. You can definitely hear the change of the energy between a hockey and a basketball game( For me , that is, being a hockey fan, nothing against basketball). You can even hear the organ and "Chelsea's Dagger", the best goal song ever. Arizona Coyote's " Howling for you" is a close second.

I am the only one who commented on this video in 2024! I remember watching this video when my dad showed me because we are fans of the Chicago Blackhawks (Still Are!) and it amazed me how they managed to pull this off props to the crew! 👏

Is there any time-lapse video of the united center (or any arena for that matter) setting up for a concert or similar event then switching to hockey and/or basketball

As much as I hate say it & as much of a broken record I may seem like (to quote a familiar expression, as cliché as it might seem), I'm going to say it, anyways: "As great as the United Center is, it'll be nothing like Old Chicago Stadium & it never will be.". I was 5 when they started tearing Old Chicago Stadium down.

I feel fortunate to have seen the Hawks at the Stadium. I was young, but I will always remember the roar.

Maintenance cost must be a nightmare
@treymagathan8475 жыл бұрын
David Woo Not if the city partially owns the rights to the arena, then public funds go toward part of its maintenance. You'd be surprised how much public taxpayer money goes toward these ventures even after they're built.
@0s4k265 жыл бұрын
There is a decent amount spent, but if you look closely its all modular and can replace parts of it if need be instead of the whole court or rink. Mind you these are both professional league teams with a rather large pocket book, in addition to being located in one of the largest taxing bodies in the US with a 10.25% sales tax(to state) and property taxes that vary from 9 to 20% for residential property.

how long did it take to switch not including the game times?
@treymagathan8475 жыл бұрын
Pyrops ‘ It typically takes anywhere from 2-4 hours to interchange from basketball to hockey, and about 3-4 hours to change from hockey/basketball to a concert.

What event were they setting up after the Bulls game since they removed the walls at the one end of the rink (I had thought they were always removed for Bulls games until I saw in this time lapse that they hidden between rows of seats)?
