Fun fact; to accommodate for my sister and her husband moving upstairs after their wedding, I had to move downstairs into a room without a door. When I was getting a door, my dad wanted to give me a barn door. I took one look at it and was like “no; I just want a regular door. No barn door stuff.” Than when it came to finally getting the door, they still chose the barn door despite me specifically asking them not to do so, on the basis of saying “oh you’ll grow to love it”. Ended up having to buy a handle and lock for it before I could even say it’s somewhat of a serviceable door. Even after all that, I still hated it, and they’re utterly confused as to the door I specifically said I never wanted in the first place was something I could hate.

Guys did you try bending the track a little so the wheels stay on and then greasing the track? Usually you're supposed to grease the track and wheels, but no one does this anymore and the sliding part wears out within a year.

Also, you can put weak magnet tape on the back edge of the door in a checkerboard pattern and then make them repel the part where it closes, and then put neodymium magnets on the corners and then put in screws and some foam on the screwheads so the door slides open smoothly and then silently stays open without bouncing back. The neodymium magnet will hold it open, but the magnet tape will make it easy to close.

So. Sliding Doors. I was once at one of my dad's friend's house, and they had a sliding door _in the bathroom._ And I *really* needed to go. BUT, I didn't realize they had a door at all, since it was pushed all the way back. So there I was, awkwardly sitting there and waiting for this ordeal to be over. I'm there thinking 'what bad design' when I exit the bathroom, and see OUT OF THE CORNER OF MY EYE, the sliding door circle. And that's why I have a personal vendetta against sliding doors,

I looked at a house once, and they had a bathroom with those little swinging saloon doors like you see in a cartoon, I have no idea why you would put doors like that on a bathroom. I liked the house, but if I bought it, the first thing I would do would be to put in a real door.

The only time I can think of sliding doors making sense, is if those sliding doors cut a room in half, are part of a closet OR are part of a doorway where the door opening normally could be an issue(aka, a bicycle shed where the steer can get stuck behind a door).

When I was a kid, my dad lived in an apartment complex in Detroit that had one of those old elevators where you had to manually open both the outer door and the inner door, then make sure that both doors were manually shut before pushing the button to go up. My family has a barn-style sliding door leading to our basement, on a sliding mechanism my dad made, cause trying to open the door was a hassle if your hands were full, and opening it blocked off the entrance to the kitchen.
