I haven’t finished the story yet but I’m enjoying it as I listen to it. This is what humanity could be. What we could be when we’re at our best. I actually felt my throat constrict when the Amber Alert came and the humans reacted by dropping what they were doing to search for the child. It mattered not that child was from another species or that she was a refugee with no wealth. Everyone united in a single purpose to rescue her and treat any injuries. Never mess with children when humans are around.

The story forgot to mention that the damaged pirate ship was sold at auction and a (dead or alive) bounty was collected on the pirates. The money from the sale and bounty (per a United Earth Federation lawsuit) was provided to Greesha, who invested the money into a tax-free stock fund for NGO charities. The annual profits are donated to the "United Earth Refugee Assistance Organization" and to "Toys for Tots".

Perfect. Simply perfect. It caused many Deroli to come to Earth for safety and protection. From being refugees the Deroli found jobs-their unique empathetic talents becoming a particularly useful skill in many professions. And so the vast majority of the Deroli quickly found jobs, which in turn boosted Earth’s and humanity’s economy in a mutually beneficial arrangement. Small Deroli communities became fairly common in human territory and in time the two species formally allied. Humanity of course had its own experience and knowledge of radiation and nuclear weapons from its own history, and in time humans became a familiar sight on the Deroli homeworld as various radiation experts traveled there to apply their knowledge towards the goal of making more of the planet habitable again. They couldn’t repair the planet entirely for the damage was severe and many species had gone extinct. The surviving flora and fauna had mutated. And yet gradually the combination of human and Deroli specialists managed to reclaim decent portions of the planet and made large habitable zones. It would take centuries, if not thousands of years for the radiation to dissipate and for the planet to recover but that was okay, because many Deroli had found new homes and lives with their human friends and allies. Or at least… that’s my ending for it.
